How sad it is that people who say things like this do not realise that it is not they who are going to make the decision as whether or not they have anything to hide.

Whether or not you have anything to hide or whether or not you have done anything wrong it going to be decided by someone sitting in front of a computer screen somewhere in the world then the people across the other side of the desk in a police station will decide whether or not you have done anything wrong or if you have anything to hide.

Look, I'm very much against the "if you don't have anything to hide" nonsense. The reality though is this juggernaut is not going to change course unless there is an outright revolution in the USA.

This type of crap is here to stay because the politicians will be ice-skating in hell under a sky of flying pigs before they wind back the surveillance state and return to the TRUE values of this nation.

It sucks, it really does, and I push hard to protect my own liberties. But anyone using their phone for illegal activities is an idiot, especially a smart phone. Especially something as sick and stupid as childporn or other obviously incriminating media. Stupid is as stupid does...

If I encrypted my conversations on electronic media, and if the FBI (or CIA, NSA, state, or local law enforcement) was acting legally, they would never know it, because they have no right to conduct surveillance on said devices without probable cause, a warrant signed by a judge, and due process.

Here's the problem with "if you aren't doing anything wrong, then why are you worried?":

The federal government IS DOING SOMETHING WRONG. It is the enemy. We are beyond the threshold and it is time for action to stop illegal US federal government activity. Those who aspire to do something about it are now at a huge disadvantage due to illegal US federal government surveillance, and done using US citizens' tax dollars to do it.

This is a big DUH!!! Any sucker that believes the FBI mantra deserves the tyranny they're about to get.

I think you give the government agencies more credit than they deserve.

If they had the ability to decrypt and monitor any phone/device they wouldn't need tips or snitches.

Yea they want you to believe they can do all those wonderful things at will. But most of their work is old fashioned gum shoe tactics.

For you average doofus that local and county Authorities are after yes. If you have a 3 letter agency after you the heat goes up 10 fold and they love digital evidence.
