Mods-please move if needed:

For the past several years, I've been suffering from sleep issues. I've had sleep paralasis for 15 years or so, but I've learned to quicky identify it and control it to the point where I don't think I've had an episode in 8-10 months. It used to be absolutely terrible and horrifying, then it become just another nights sleep, and finally I welcomed SP because I could control every aspect of it. But in the last 8-10 months, something else has taken it's place.

Spiders. I wake up several times a week in a total panic, jumping out of the bed and franticly trying to wipe my body clean of spiders which I know are on me somewhere. I turn on the light, pull back the covers of my bed to make sure there aren't any there and I'm up for a good 30 minutes coming to the reality that there were no spiders. Sometimes I'm in a cold sweat where the sheets and covers are completely soaked (not much exageration there....soaken....wet).

The panic and fear is overwhelming. The thing is, I'm not really scared of spiders at all. If I see one that I know to be dangerous, I kill it. If I know it's not dangerous, I let it be. If one gets on me, sure....I wig out a little...who wouldn't? But why this sudden paranorma-like fear of spiders that are falsly waking me up at night?

Who else has experienced anything like this? Were you able to find away to get away from it?

On a side note....I'm drug free, only drink 2-4 times per month and in moderation, no prescription medications or anything over the counter to include any supplements. There hasn't been any major changes in my life, no crazy stessors or anything of the sort.

Help me out ATS...whatcha got?

At least if you were on drugs you would know what is causing your problem.

My guess is EM radiation.

There has been threads like this over the years and there's no conclusion.

I personally think your experiencing extra terrestrial experimentation.

Interesting. But I hope not. They never asked for my consent.

No need to worry friend, you are NOT the only person! I myself, and many others have experienced the same thing. What you are experiencing is a form of Hypnagogic Hallucination...Look into it yourself it is VERY interesting.

Some people wake up and see spiders, some see rats and other creepy crawlers, I personally see people - I wake up and sometimes see people in my bedroom...This can sometimes be disturbing, but after years of having this happen on and off I usually understand what is going on and I don't get too frightened.

Not really sure what causes this other than it is a pretty common sleeping disorder. But don't worry, what you are seeing is just a hallucination.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? The first time I had a hypnagogic hallucination was when I was 16 or 17...I'm 21 now. I'm not sure if it usually happens in younger people, older, or if it's random.

True. But I'm subject to random drug testing. So even if I wanted to, I couldn't

Could you elaborate on EM radiation? What would/could cause that and do you know how it could affect ones sleep?

Excellent stuff. I'll get to reading about it as soon as I finish this. I'm 33. I've experienced the whole lot of them...spiders, mice/rats, bugs. My sleep paralysis has taken me into the realm of actual people in my room. But spiders are by far and away the most dominate imaginary species to awaken me.

Thanks for the input.

LOL ... spiders? You get little ol' spiders?

Try snakes my friend. Big ones ... like as big around as your arm ... slithering around under the covers down by your legs.

Or her
LOL

I have had many dreams with spiders, and the same as you i jump out of bed and shake everything that could hide the damn beast.

But it's a very long time since i had a dream like that, i noticed that they were connected to my stress level.

What is going on in your life? You don't have to answer on here, just think about it. What do spiders do? They spin webs to catch things. They ENTRAP their victims and tie them up till they can't move. I used to have those dreams when I felt like I was trapped in a situation in my life.

Whatever is bothering you in the day light hours needs to be looked into and see how you can free yourself from it,or fix it till you 'can' deal with it. Good luck.

I think that I would find a good hypnotherapist and get a posthypnotic suggestion not to dream this. Really would .

You and I may be spiders of a web. I suffer from sleep paralysis and am intimate with these strange astral spiders as well. I believe they are your animal totem. You are being called to pay attention to a certain side of yourself that you may be neglecting.

Here is a thread detailing how spiders are intertwined in my life and in my dreams:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

I started waking up imagining spiders crawling on me or dangling above my body. They were never menacing, threatening, or biting. But I was afraid of them. My body tingled, my skin crawled, and my mind filled in the gaps by imagining the arachnids on me and around me.

In the dreams, the spiders are never bothersome or dangerous. They’re just there. I’m the one who is dangerous and malevolent. I see them, chase them, and try to maim them.

But more importantly, here is some great info on the spider totem:
www.spiracanada.com...

A Spider Totem will be one of those people that when you come across them, you will not be able to figure them out. You will not know why they are saying what they are saying and you will not know why they are doing what they are doing. And that confusion is exactly where a Spider Totem would want you: off guard.

The spider is known as a wily teacher who often teaches by showing what not to do often resulting in pain or misfortune.

Great time to post this as I have been thinking about the spider totem interpretation a lot this week.

All these are good suggestions and worth looking into. One more thing to consider is the bottom feeder concept. Layers of frequency channels/realms/dimensions. In reality its all around us, all at once. The whole spectrum of reality, but do to past life choices and/or entering in to assist and grow or possibly challenge oneself, we are in a rather low dimensional gravity. Feels to me like Im glued into these big heavy boots walking in quicksand and my mind is air, moving rapidly and trying to uplift emotions and everyone. Our brain is the computer that runs the specific programs that relate to this shared realm. But other things can access us. And the universe is really diverse, with creatures, some what we call shadow, that tend to mess with our astrals.

It's just another facet of sleep paralysis.

SP doesn't just give you the dreams where you can't move and something's in the room.

It also has a more...creative side...where you get to see little visitors from your subconscious. You generally get a strong conviction that the hallucination/dream sequence is REAL, and it's tough to shake the impression.

Makes me think of

System of a Down - Spiders Lyrics

The piercing radiant moon,
The storming of poor June,
All the life running through her hair,
Approaching guiding light,
Our shallow years in fright,
Dreams are made winding through my head,
Through my head,
Before you know,
Awake,

Your lives are open wide,
The V-chip gives them sight,
All the life running through her hair,
The spiders all in tune,
The evening of the moon,
Dreams are made winding through my head,
Through my head,
Before you know,
Awake

Through my head,
Before you know,
Before you know I will be waiting all awake,
Dreams are made winding through her hair,
Dreams are made winding through her hair.

I have a spider that is running around my apartment that I see sometimes. As long as it does not crawl on my body I am alright with us sharing the apartment.

Great post thanks for this bhudda.

Any connection with a more "intuitive" person? Or instead of I tuitive let's just say someone who has hyper sensitive pattern recogniTion skills?

Wow! I looked more into spider totem and symbolism and this makes great sense.

I've been struggling with a witch in my dreams for years and well... I don't have time but if you respond I'll go into further detail.
