A Japanese military helicopter rescued three people Sunday morning from a spectacular volcanic eruption that sent officials scrambling to reach many more injured and stranded on a mountain. LINK

They were actually being polite and saying 'after you' instead of running like hell from that dust cloud!

Is this an additional eruption or is it the same thing as this?

They seem a little too calm for me.

The conversation went something like, "This is bad. Shall we stay over here.. or go over there. Not gonna make it." I guess its better then panicking and being irrational.

They're lucky it wasn't pyroclastic flow, or was it? Not that they can outrun it anyway. I suspect it was not according to the death toll.

Wait that video is from RT it can't be true!

The power of that thing looks mad, I saw the video of those tourists who were right there running from the ash cloud was pretty epic, I had thoughts of a modern day pompeii in action!

An update on this, they found 30 dead hikers up the hill:

The hikers were not breathing and their hearts had stopped, reports said. Final confirmation of death in Japan always comes via a medical examination.

www.bbc.co.uk...

I'm assuming they had no idea what was about to happen

And there's an ongoing Search and Rescue:

The thing with the Japanese is, they truly don't fear death. A more fatalistic bunch I have never met.

Just out of interest, has Japan ever had a history of natural disasters?, I know they get affected by tremors a lot, but recently in the last few years?, earthquakes, multiple tsunamis and now volcanoes exploding?, just seems all a bit too much at once you know. Is this a cyclical thing for Japan? or is this all suddenly out of the blue?

Sorry Im not sure what you mean. I see you are based in Tokyo, I am not. What the weather is like in Japan is apparently of very little interest to countries that are on the other side of the planet. Do you know a lot about the history of natural disasters in Zaire?, probably not, why would you?.

Ive never heard much about natural disasters in Japan in the news at all until very recently. So maybe you can help me, do you usualy experience, earthquakes, tsunami's and volcanoes with such regularity?, thats a fair enough question is it not?

My thoughts exactly, really laughed out loud. Then down to your post so had to respond.

ETA - Heeeer ya go dabrazzo! Just a little wiki info. Do a search of Japan's natural disaster history and it's, well, very evident the land has a long history of being very tumultuous.

Japan is one of the countries most affected by natural disasters. Two out of the five most expensive natural disasters in recent history have occurred in Japan, costing $181 billion in the years 2011 and 1995 only. Japan has also been the site of some of the 10 worst natural disasters of the 21st century. The types of natural disasters in Japan include tsunamis, floods, typhoons, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. The country has gone through many years of natural disasters, affecting its economy, development, and social life.

Why would anyone? Death is a relief, it's a release. It's like finally someone opening the door of your prison cell and handing you 8 million pounds and saying: "Here you go, enjoy!". Would you really be scared?

Why would anyone fear something that puts an END to their misery and suffering? (Temporarily anyway)

Do you also think it's normal to fear falling asleep? Same thing, on a smaller scale.

Only an ignorant fool fears death - and even then, I can't fathom WHY.

Anyone, who has lived on THIS wretched ball of mud and concrete for long enough, DREAMS of the glorious moment when they don't have to breath more of this polluted air or feel the enormous hostility and stupidity of these Terra-dwelling half-animals.

Anyone, who knows what's going on, welcomes so-called "death" with open arms.

Fear death? Yeah, like a prisoner fears simultaneous lottery win and being liberated from the prison. Rational? I don't think so.
