My sis had a problem with her computer that I figured I'd need internet service to fix it , so I brought the tower home with me so I could fix it. Hers isn't never hooked to the net , it's just for playing games. CCleaner helped solve the problem.

So my question is... Does Firefox keep track of your internet addy , so it can give you your addons on a totally different computer??

Mine is an Emachines with XP , Ghostery and Quick and Clean addons installed. Hers is a Dell with Vista running, hasn't been hooked to the internet for about 5 to 6 years. Hers also has a broken IE7 running on it. But did manage to get Firefox going on it.

I needed Firefox so i could get CCleaner, because the IE7 wouldn't go the CCleaner site. And when I opened Firefox , I noticed it had Ghostery and Quick and Clean already there, without me adding them, thus my question.

( side note : I know her pc , because it used to be our mothers' )

Thanks in advanced for your input. I'm just curious about , how this happened , and I hope my post made scense (spelling ?) .

If I'm understanding correctly, you're looking for Firefox's new "sync" feature that lets you share your Firefox settings, bookmards, add-ons, passwords, etc., across all devices. This link explains how to do it:

support.mozilla.org...

I'm used to the old-fashioned way of copying my Firefox profile to a USB stick, then putting that profile on another PC after setting it up and getting Firefox installed.

I know Firefox has a Sync feature which will allow you to share your tabs, bookmarks, passwords and probably extensions and add-ons as well on any computer. I know the newer version of Sync in Firefox requires you to create an account, but maybe the older versions didn't require an account somehow? Are you possibly using this feature in Firefox without realizing it? I've never needed to use it myself, so I unfortunately can't give any feedback on how or how well it works.

Yea, that's exactly what I do and why I never really needed the Sync feature. It also seems a little too cloud-like for my liking.

no, i was fixing my sisters' pc and downloaded firefox onto it. it had the same addons as my pc, which is totally different.

my question is....

Does Firefox keep your internet addy to download the same addons you already have onto another pc , without even asking/downloading them?

i don't want any sync or whatever.

it was just weird that the same addons i have showed up on her pc, without doing any thing.

i'm sorry you misunderstood .

Did you use any kind of password after installing Firefox onto her PC? As far as I know, the sync feature requires a log-in before any syncing can be done. Other than that, I haven't used the sync feature, so unless that version of Firefox on her PC recognized you and downloaded your add-ons, that probably shouldn't have happened.

no, hers doesn't have a password , because she doesn't have internet service. her pc is for playing games and nothing else. you know? , games bought at wally world.
