Thanks. I thought it was just a marker for the end of the first line... the first four bars. Were they out of time or something before? Since the bass is a drone (played on pedals) it doesn't do much for the rhythm; it's all drums and guitar.

Thanks for the blast from the past. I enjoy hearing stories from that era. I noted that you kind of fell out of it before you became "famous".

Do you ever feel that you are lucky to have survived it without becoming fatally rich or fatally addicted to anything?

Not a reflection on you, just the "environment".

For example, Stones, Aerosmith, Kiss… I wonder if they are really happy being as wealthy and famous as they are?

Like other famous rock stars they are famous primarily for their early work more than any performance they may give today. Their wealth is bought with the continuing sales of those early works. I know, for the most part. There are so many good artists today I don't mean to say that early rock is the only rock, just that times have changed.

I'll go out on a limb here and cite this very thread. We honor the musicians for songs they once did, not the revitalization of them today. Unless I am being overly negative.

No no, I agree with everything you say here. When I was young I was inspired. I mean really inspired, I had something telling me that I was going to the top and that that was my destiny. I can't explain it completely, but I felt later on when looking back at it all that I was sort of at the crossroads, but only by the grace of God as it were, I made the right turn. Around that time I went through a lot of things that I don't want to get into here, the philosophy forum would be better suited for that discussion, but I got married and left that scene behind for some time. Long enough I guess.

I know for a fact that I wouldn't have lived through it. Well, not for a fact, but I'm pretty sure. I always tell people that. I just know my tendencies and how things were back then. And the fact that all the guys I played with ended up going that route too, they just luckily survived. Well, one of them is dead now, and that may be related to his past lifestyle. But the biggest thing for me, that I never regret, is all the children I've had that would have never existed had I turned the other way at the crossroad... That's why I believe in a higher power.

Well that's good, Astyanax, I prefer my personally enriched version of Led Zeppelin and how it influences how I hear them that has developed over many years.

I'm sure yours sounds nice too.

Certainly, if you feel you need to. I was asking a simple question, because I didn't hear what you were hearing. I'm not trying to prove you wrong; it's more a case of quelling my own anxiety, because I should be able to hear it, if it's there.

May I ask if you're an active musician, or simply an experienced listener? I ask because of this:

You know, I never hear that in Led Zeppelin's playing, either on records or on live recordings. Never ever. Whatever their personal differences may have been, the members of the band complemented each other musically; they didn't compete with one another on stage.

Perhaps I should add: not that I can hear, anyway.
