Hellos, all around. I'm sorry I was away so long, but I got into a few fights on some threads, including one with SkepticOverlord, but it never really got started. I just said he was wrong, and he hasn't answered yet, just put up another post with errors.

With that, and a couple of other threads, I felt as though I had to calm down and purify myself for a minute before I could walk in.

Ooooh! A political post! Nice going Bassago, this can be a good test of our civility towards each other.

Nominees on the Democrat side? I agree that Hillary has the name recognition and the money, and she's the current favorite. You may want to look at this site, it's posted odds on various candidates. Hillary is leading at 5 to 1, Michelle Obama is laboring under 500 to 1 odds. Surprisingly (perhaps) Biden is number two at 8 to 1.

www.2016election.com...

Some things to consider about Hillary which may be weaknesses. Despite her time as Secretary of State and Senator, she has no record to run on. What kind of campaign does she run to show her ability? In December, 2012, she fainted fell and suffered a concussion which took, according to Bill, six months to fully recover from. That's got to be a question mark. Also, she's 67 this year. That doesn't disqualify her, but it can't help. Finally, in a nation concerned to some extent with foreign unrest, Benghazi and failure to notch any significant accomplishments at State, will make people wonder, as well.

For more recent odds, here's a UK site that tracks the odds given by several bookies:

www.oddschecker.com...

They seem to like Elizabeth Warren as their second most likely. The four top on the Republican side, in order: Rubio, Bush, Rand Paul, and Christie.

I have some one I'd like to win, but that's different from the chance of winning. I like Ben Carson.

I'm having trouble visualizing eight years of Hillary.

As a country we have a chance, but I think as a planet we have a better chance.

That is what I'm talking about. Hope. Why do you think/believe this? I'd really like to know because I've lost that hope for humanity. You mentioned being born too late and I get that. For many of us the World and (simply) America is nothing like it was. (And not in a good way.)

So that said it gives me some hope to hear speak of hope. There is much good/great music from the 80's as well. Much of it was more sophisticated than the 60's and 70's. 80's were my favorite.

Don't know when this was performed but I believe it was created in the 80's.
Here's another.

Hilary... what can anyone say? We already know where she gets her marching orders from. (Hint it's the CFR.)

Jeb Bush?? He just co-authored a paper for the CFR with the traitor ret. General Petraeus on their hopes of destroying American/Canadian/Mexican sovereignty. Now if you want a topic for the upcoming show just ask me (U2U) about this Clinton/Bush/Petraeus fiasco. It's terrifying.

I liked Yeahkeepwatchingme's response as it contained hope. Hopefully he will expand on it.

Ben Carson.. OK by me. I'd even reregister to vote if he was on the ballot. I dropped from the voter rolls when Bush Jr went nuts.

I have to admit I need alot of answers but I don't know what kind of things to ask. I left PA and came to Vermont, I don't weld anymore, I haven't been an active Marine for awhile now I turn 29 this month. I came up here to learn how to run and own a few businesses that are in no way anything I have undertook something my father does. I have a broken fibula I don't have many choices I was almost homeless again because when I broke my ankle I couldn't weld no weld no pay had the utilities shut down first then the rent food was the last thing to think about. I'm actually kind of lost in this period of my life as things are completley different but I am not sure exactly what to think or feel about things, like life has been completely re-arranged for me. Hey thanks for listening guys, like I said I left the scotch on the bar have one on me.

So, Are you healing now or are you healed? Are you learning the business or do you need work?
You living in your Van or in the trunk of a 1962 Black Two Door Ford T-Bird. I did when I was 17 and pumping gas for $1.75 an hour and couldn't afford a place, but the trunk of a 1962 T-Bird is Really Big, I think I could have put a full size mattress in there. Then the U. S Army Got Me, Yea, I had a P.O. Box. and actually checked my mail.

Here have another drink, we'll put these on Charles Tab,,,, My wife will take care of it, It'll Disappear!

I believe it because despite seeing the worst in humanity (like many have no doubt seen) I've encountered agape. That's pretty much the best way to describe it. I've run into people that live through it. So I know I'm not alone when I experience it.

When I read reports of rioting I always know that it's a very small, tiny portion of the population that's actually participating. So most would simply turn the other cheek and focus on getting by. Mostly out of complacency but a lot of people are decent and still have manners. I can't really describe it, seems to be a group mentality that goes on in combination with the media exploiting incidents/feelings.

I definitely was born too late haha. Most of the entertainment I enjoy is from the 50s-70s, and I'm grateful for modern technology for allowing me to access them. I feel old fashioned but modern, so I guess a hipster

I believe America could "revert" to happier, more pleasant times minus certain issues from the past.

The 80s had some great music. And TV. Perfect Strangers, now that's old school America!

My apologies for running out smack in the middle of a very interesting conversation. Thinking about the word extreme unexpectedly sent me into a deep state of self reflection. I'm still not sure I've got a handle on it quite yet. Suddenly the whole idea became intensely personal, all I've got now is that we've all lived through such experiences in our lives and extremes of certain kinds are entirely subjective.

I see there are some new faces, Hello BlackCat, Yeahkeepwatchingme and Brotherman.

At the request of Bassago and Mrs.G I've brought some of my mountain shine and blackberry liqueur so there's plenty. Please everyone, Help yourselves. Thank you both for the great new music for the jukebox, we're well on our way to some of the best selections in town.

You sound a little like my parents' neighbor. He had to more or less reinvent himself. He was the sort of person who worked with his hands - physical labor and liked to be very active. Then, he hurt his back and couldn't work anymore. He had some tough times financially and had to figure it all out. But finally, he got on his feet again and wound up with a small patch of ground out around my folks. These days, he has a small pumpkin patch. He grows all varieties of ornamental pumpkins and corn for the fall season. It's just enough physical for him without being too much, and it brings in a enough on the side to supplement him. Plus, he gets the enjoyment of seeing the local kids come out a pick their pumpkins every fall.

It's not perfect or ideal, but it's the peace he had to make.

Another tale from work:

So, I sometimes read the book description and reviews, and I read a Kirkus review that really ticked me off today. The book is a new one called Snow Like Ashes and it's a debut book. It sounds from the description like the world is highly segregated by magic and human socio-political convention. The story centers around the Kingdom of Winter which was conquered and enslaved, and the few who escaped have to try to win it back. So far, pretty stock, IMO.

What steamed me up is this from Kirkus:

Unfortunately, Raasch's world is racialized, and the heroic Winterians are pale and beautiful. While the villain is also fair-skinned, the choice to valorize whiteness is perhaps ill-considered given the fraught history of racial stereotyping in high fantasy.

So, Kirkus can't find much else bad to say about it, so they have to pick on the skin colors of the characters? Are we so far down the PC color/race sensitive world, that you can't even write a book with protagonists who are the wrong, un-PC skin color without being criticized for being racist? I mean what color should people who live in a Winter Kingdom look like? All the colors of Autumn?

Sounds like an interesting book to me. For the most part much of what I read is scifi with aliens, shape changers, and brutal barbarian hordes (with space ships) so the characters colors never really seems to matter anyway. The last one I finished was called "Bug Wars" and the hero was a bipedal lizard who fought giant bugs, I think he was greenish colored.

But it does sound like a bit of the PC mentality slipped out in that review. Wonder what he thinks of all the pale white haired elves in the LOTR?

I generally read a decent mix of fantasy/sci-fi myself. I'm working my way through the second book in Brent Weeks's 'Lightbringer' trilogy called The Blinding Knife. It has a lot to do with color, too, but in a chromatic way instead of a skin color way. I really liked his first trilogy 'The Night Angel,' so I'm glad to see him growing with this second series.

Evening, everybody.

I'm a fellow sci-fi fan myself. The Dune series and Asimov's Caves of Steel are my favorites. I recommend a novel called Amerindian 2192 by J. Scott Garibay. It's about future American Indian and their gigantic "Lodgeships", some house whales in large aquariums. The descriptions of the technology and culture is very descriptive.

What do you think of Bradbury? I'm a fan of his work, especially R is for Rocket.
