Wanted to share this.

Never new it was possible for humans to see in Infrared but it appears it may be possible. An experiment was created by Science for the Masses and funded through crowd funding to see if by reducing Vitamin A1 in the diet and supplementing it with A2, you could increase the production of porphyropsin. A protein used to grant Infrared vision to fish.

They believed the answer to the question was yes, and based on their initial results posted three days ago, they were right! In the electroretinogram (ERG) results below, notice the spikes at 950nm:

Graphs can be seen on link below..

All though this could have all sorts of uses I guess long term use would be detrimental to health..

purp..

"Dehydroretinol" (A2) is, interestingly enough, found in the retinas of fish eyes. Meaning their actual freakin' eyeballs give you A2!

It lends some credence to many tribal cultures who eat things to gain its power. "EAT ITS EYES, GAIN ITS VISION!!!" There's a pattern here since we are also finding more evidence for youthful blood reversing aging, etc.

Interesting.

I remember seeing a report about a guy who had an op on his eye, I think they removed part of the lens. What they didn't realise was that the lens filtered out ultra violet light. It did this because ultraviolet is destructive to the eye.
They guy said everything looked so different, especially when he went to the supermarket, he said all the check out girls were sitting in a glow that is not normally visible to us. The glow was coming from the scanning equipment.

My grandfather used to eat the fish eyes. We would bring him the heads of the fish we caught and he washed and boiled them. I didn't like anything but the cheeks, they are the best part of the fish. I am sure some of this chemical was in the juice that I poured over the potatoes. That tasted great.

He didn't see better in the dark that I know of, considering how many fish heads he ate. He didn't need glasses to read. He only lived to 86 years old though, and healthy right up till the end.

I am sure there are other sources of A2. I wonder if it is related to retinol.

This could also explain why some people claim to see things, "normal" people don't see.

Oh, thought it was found in a freshwater fish' liver?

At any rate it wouldn't be wise to remove vitamin A from the diet.

Who needs to see in infra red? What purpose would it serve? The article doesn't really say

Yes, that's a cataracts operation. The lens gets cloudy due to UV damage that cooks the proteins so they become transparent. Some operations use lasers to destroy the damaged proteins. Other operations just remove the lens and replace it with a fixed focal length lens. Given the lifespan of humans, UV damage can lead to cancer of the retina, so the loss of UV perception is better than being unable to feed.

Other critters don't have this UV filtering because that improves their survival chances and they don't live long enough to worry about cancer.

The interesting thing is that with the design of the human eye, whatever is in your bloodstream can actual filter out or give perception of different wavelengths of light. Some of those illegal substances absorb UV light and actually emit it in the wavelengths closest to peak reception frequencies of the various cones in the retina.

I once had to get an eye test where various fluorescent medical dyes were injected to check the capillary network of each layer of my retinas. Apart from the eye drops to make my pupils dilate, everything did seem to look the same but different. And my urine glowed in the dark

Great Post! I happened to read this article and stumble on this about two months ago, for anyone that is interested it is a very good example of the spectrum and what he can see, you can also compare your vision!
