ISIS beheads US Journalist James Wright Foley

I'm hard pressed to believe that this threat couldn't be wiped out in one day with the current state of the art technology that is available; it's the year twenty fourteen. It would also be naive to assume that what we are told is state of the art is truly state of the art. The fact that these atrocities are being committed, and only the US has intervened with serious military action just tells you that something is fishy here. If there is any de-escalation due to this event, OR if there is no response and the status quo is maintained, then they are essentially negotiating with terrorists. There is nothing to gain from responding to violence with violence, but these are extraneous circumstances. IF everything being reported from this area is in fact happening, and it is not some sort of conspiratorial psy op or orchestrated agenda then there is only one logical response. Because nothing seriously has been done in response to the threat it tells me all i need to know; there is no profit in saving innocent people.

Tragic, evil, disturbing and disgusting. But not in any way surprising.

Will the world ever accumulate enough collective resolve to rid itself of this evil?

Most likely, not.... Time is running out, quickly.

I once made the mistake of watching the beheading of a man in Iraq back in 2002. That video haunted me for years. I have no desire to search for and watch this video but to those that have seen the video, was it the standard sawing off of a victim's head while still alive or one strike of a sword? I'd hope the latter and that this reporter died quickly and painlessly.

To saw off a human being's head whilst they are still alive is the ultimate act of barbarism. That whole area of the planet just needs to be turned into glass.

Oh..I just saw the video. My stomach is turning. It was too HD. It was to well devised. I skipped past the actual beheading because I don't think I could bare watching that guy experience those last moments of life - the fear and terror and trauma he was undoubtedly in. I cant even think of it. My mind and body freezes. It's a despicable sight.

The only thing which irks me more is the horror of what those men just did. And they don't know it. They think it's legitimate - the Quran depicts it again and again. It is how the ancient Muslims acted.

But for #s sakes that it is the acme of human ignorance! Islamism is the most utterly terrifying mixture of religious-mystical annihilation within the mind and a completely psychopathic disregard of the reality of the other person.

It just astonishes me. Without mythologizing ISIS as the hordes of the antichrist, they are pure and utter evil.

I am heartbroken thinking about the pain that mans family is currently feeling. And for the pain he lived through towards that final moment.

I'm so angry, this like I've said in other threads is the thing that scares me most about ISIS. Not what they are, who they are, what they are trying to do, or what they claim is right, but the fact I would happily pull each of their teeth over the course of 3 months to keep them awake and alive. Pull off their finger and toe nails. Skin their hands, then feet, just enough to torment but not kill them.

That response should never be invoked. EVER ! and yet I am worse than them having seen what I've seen.

I hate them, and they have evoked that response. It disgusts me that I can feel this way.

I believe we can. But I really don't think there's a non-military solution to the problem of Islamism, unfortunately.

As the story goes, it is THEY who are bringing the fight to us - civilization. Could you imagine doing nothing - allowing an ideology like this to establish themselves as a legitimate state? Terrifying. Every Middle Eastern country would be developing their own nuclear programs. And nevermind the insecurity the countries of the world will feel about their presence.

Life really does make things simple for this. Islamism = Evil. I don't know why that is; I don't think "deep down" any of those guys are evil; but it is the wedding of this Islamic ideology with political action - taking the Quran de-facto as verity incarnate - that brings into human reality a component that will do things which most human beings would be unable to do. It's this "thing" we call Islamism, this monster, which we need to put an end to. It'll be two pronged. Military and physical suppression, and for everyone else: reeducation. Teach them facts about being human in the 21st century. The different religious views and our awareness of it. Which should change how we understand our "chosen" religion. Islam needs to be practiced in the humanist/secularist tradition of "in private". That is, Islamic law should not inform state law. This cannot be compromised because allowing just a "bit" will grant enough leeway for more conservative elements to change and fundamentalize the system.

We in the west already have models in place for how religion interacts with state and I don't see why Islam should be exempt from this. It works well. If they follow our models and truly inculcate a humanist understanding in the minds of those who grow up in Muslim societies, their societies will finally find stability. But if they don't, the contradiction at the core of Islamism and the modern world will eat away at their societies and leave them in perpetual discord. It amazes me how deeply Islamists/extremists ignore/dissociate the psychological reality of other people or for that matter the fact that their approach is one of war predicated on a premise that justifies its barbarities by the pretext of "faith" - a vile word when it lets you do things like this.

I, as probably most here have thankfully only seen beheadings online and more thankful I could not be to my fate for this fact and have no interest in watching another one but I have to ask those with more information than I have, what are the odds that this video was produced by the west in hopes of garnering exactly the sentiment it is and will continue to do in order for certain agendas to go through like s*** through a goose? I know almost nothing of IS and in looking for information have only found sources that paint with either horror or with joy. How do you trust either??? The US and its arsenal should damn well be able to handle these guys without boots on the ground so why aren't they? Drones? Satellite images/videos to name a few of what we KNOW they have at their disposal... What are they employing that we don't know about?

I'm unable to get information from western sources faux, cnn, msn etc. simply because I believe them to be nothing but actors reading from a script because that's exactly what they are. The other side of the coin is what I've heard about this group of radical Muslims being created, funded, armed and trained by the west so what are the odds of this being if not faked, at least produced by these same sources? I'd be willing to bet, sacrificing a journalist willing to tread where he knows there is at the very least a chance that something like this would happen would be doable to these people no?

My husband is deployed... somewhere over the rainbow (OPSEC). I just spoke to him. They have not been told about this event at all. Now isn't that something? Don't you think something like this would be at least a briefing or in their daily news report? Spec Ops doesn't know this happened? I'm really close to calling b..s.

If this bunch of thugs make a big impression on young people in the USA or Australia, then there will be this type of garbage in our own back yard. Best to get rid of them now. In one fast hard hit. Isil beheaded syrian civilians, iraqi civilians and journalists like Mr Foley, supported them. There is lots of videos on youtube proving that. Supported the stance of your government (logical). He was not a free voice, an activist - not at all.

In the other hand, your country, during the destruction of historical monuments, innocent women and children deaths and rapes, didnt care about bombarding Isil... they do now because of the kurds. And now you start counting victims.
