My attitude to my membership here, is that I am aware that just by being a member, I may be subject to greater scrutiny than those who are not members. However, I refuse, point blank, to join Facebook. That is not through fear of government monitoring, although there is that factor to it. My main issue with Facebook, is that I have seen what it does to otherwise functional human beings, people who once conversed expansively and enjoyed a laugh. Nowadays, even when I visit my firmest friends, they are often seen to trail off mid sentence, as they receive a message from someone in real time.

Many is the time where I have been sat in a room with four other people, and been the only one not gazing, stupefied by an unceasing access to the data stream. They say to me "Dude, you should join Facebook", whilst we walk through town, and more often than not do so whilst their eyes devour the data available to them on that network. I have literally had to pull friends out of the way of people walking toward them, who have failed to see them, often because they too are absorbed in the netiverse, rather than living in the moment.

I have had to drag several friends out of the way of motor cars, because they were busy in their "smart" phones, on Facebook.

No kidding, I won't fly. We all need to get together and stop flying for a while. This TSA baloney just doesn't work. I do know their scanner can count the money in your pocket though. That has happened to me.

Perhaps your wife would rather you pay more attention to her and your family rather than spending hours online researching suicides.

They'll have multiple lists, hell they probably have lists on troublesome foreigners too.

Oh, and they're like zombies or something, wanting you to join them in their undeath.
I wonder if in the future I might be the extroverted one, compared to the kids growing up now, as usually I will be quite reserved.

It's pretty creepy..

Depending on your online activities, you're more likely being watched by advertisers than by big brother.

There's millions of people whose comments get flagged everyday. And there's lots of different reasons why.

There's lots of online behavior that can get you put on watch lists and also get you into trouble with the authorities.

Making terrorist threats, child pornography, drug trafficking, fraud/scams, copyright infringement, bullying ....etc.

You should only be worried if your actions cross the line of legality. Millions of people voice their opinions everyday.

Every American citizen has the right to freedom of speech. Know your rights and use them. Do not be afraid to speak out.

Research cases of people being prosecuted for online expression. There are some examples out there.

Don't associate with violent extremists. Don't promote violent extremist viewpoints. Do not promote violence.

Don't promote breaking the law, don't brag about breaking the law, don't threaten to break the law.

If you are really concerned then you should take reasonable measures to protect yourself.

Which means being informed of your rights and where you might be crossing the line.

When speaking out on a particular topic know the facts and avoid making emotional rants.

For example.... You can say "F.. the police". But I wouldn't post a picture of myself holding an AK-47 with the same caption.

They have all become servitors.

I caught one of my friends drooling once while she was attached to Facebook. All over the screen...they only noticed when their fingers got wet...

You are not alone, my husband keeps telling me that I should not be posting on ATS because it can affect his job, I wish I could tell you more but I can not.

I saw let them watch.

Put me on lists.

I could care less.

People pick and choose what Rabbit Holes they are jumping down.
If you are jumping down a hole that has big brother at the bottom,
then you know you are onto something.

Awww come on guys. So what if we're on a list? Have you ever seen the government do ANYTHING that they haven't totally screwed-up? So if they did, at some future point, decide to act on said lists you all know it would end up being a massive cluster-frappe.

Those who are apathetic and afraid are often against voicing opinion. It may or may not cause the government to treat you different. Sadly that's sometimes the price of freedom and free speech.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I'm on a list. You're on a list. All God's children on a list. Even the ones keeping the lists, they're on a list.

Meh.

I'd worry if the lists hadn't gotten so cumbersome and unwieldy they're virtually useless.

Now if there's some list somewhere with only 100 people on it and you're on that one, that might be worrisome.

I've been actively farting around here for over 9 years and it has yet to make a damn bit of difference in my life, other than being generally entertaining and sometimes even educational.

IMO if you have any reason to worry, it is completely independent of anything you might be doing (or not doing) here.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

What's the point of posting anything on facebook. When I do go on there it just reminds me of how abysmally stupid most the people I know are. Taking pictures of their god damned taco bell they're about to eat or telling the world about how they considered going to the beach today but instead watched maury povich. Who dafuq cares.

Don't be this guy.
