My personal experience reveals to me that freedom of speech is often infringed upon because of misunderstandings, misinterpretations, presumptions and
political correctness.
I'll be giving two examples. One at the government level, and one at a personal level.
Firstly, at the government level we see the FCC implementing rules of speech against non-violent, non-inflammatory and non-hate filled remarks. One
thing I can agree with is laws, or public awareness against pure hate speech. However, the fact that the SH, F, A and other words are bleeped out and
considered "bad" is beyond any level of competent comprehension.
When the above mentioned words are used against another in a derogatory manner, I can then see the cause for concern. However, we see no uproar when
the synonyms of these words are used in damnation and spite. For example: if an individual strikes out on baseball and yells "crap", it is
considered okay, however, if the alternative synonym is used, the "SH" word, then this is considered a violation of some form of speech and grounds
for some form of termination or punishment.
I find it absurd and hilarious that poop, crap, butt, feces, defecation, dang, sex, darn etc. are "okay" words to say, type, or otherwise use. Yet,
their "evil synonyms" are considered "bad". Words that have the exact same meanings and are used in the exact same context. Some of these words
even containing the same amount of letters.
Secondly, my short time here on ATS recently has led to one of my posts being deleted for a "serious violation of the terms and conditions". In my
post, I stated that I do not care if people like me or not, that I am here to present the facts, not limit my freedom of speech for the purpose of
political correctness or an image of beneficence. No where in my post did I directly insult any members, nor even allude to it. It is evident to me
that my post was removed due to my intents being distorted and defined by the moderators and staff of this website.
Another member, who was insulting me and wishing death upon police officers, those who we pay to serve and protect our communities, also had his or
her post removed, but the reason given was "manners violation". Clearly an attempt to politicize the debate by the staff against me and in favor of
others.
To sum up this political ideology regarding the political correctness of speech:
The government at the federal level is obviously incompetent to seriously enforce such rules, and politics within power structures attempt to preserve
an image they deem correct at the expense of violating your right to freedom of speech, your privilege to define yourself, and ultimately what people
think about you.
It's a sad state of affairs.
