Yes , good way to think of it . It`s actually quite naive to think we`ll find ET life in the visible spectrum . There is a bigger chance to find it in other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum . For all i know we could be able to tune into other frequencies without being aware of it . That would explain a lot

But like I said in a post above, even if there was a species of aliens who saw each other in another parts of the EM spectrum (say UV or IR, for example), and their bodies exuded some details about themselves in that part of the spectrum, that doesn't mean that we would not be able to see them in visible light. Even if they were creatures who always saw each other in UV only, they would almost certainly still reflect visible light, too, and thus would be able to be seen by in in the "visible light" spectrum (visible to humans, that is).
For something to not be reflect visible light that humans can see, it would need to be a black body material that absorbs light. I think it would be highly unlikely that a living creature would be made out of this black-body material, so it would be likely that it would reflect light that we could see.
EVEN IF an alien was made of a material that absorbed all visible light, we would still see it, albeit what we would see would be a black blob. What I mean is that it would not be totally invisible to us. If it was standing in my living room in front of the television, it would still block my view of the television, even if all I see is black where the alien is standing.
Conversely (and Interestingly enough), these creatures may find it quite fascinating that we humans could see that "mysterious part of the Spectrum" (what we call visible light) that may be invisible to their eyes.

But if your theory was correct we would be able to see audiowaves . The same goes for all other parts of the electromatic scale .
"Audiowaves" are not electromagnetic radiation.
