State of Emergency Declared in Ferguson - Curfew from 12 am to 5am - Now National Guard

I had intended to stick with this thread through the curfew but had something else needing attending to. Now that I am back and reading through swiftly the goings-on tonight...I'm glad I wasn't here. This is disgusting.

What's really eating me right now (I'm tired and my brain activity is a bit iffy) is that the governor called a "state of emergency" in the first place.

A STATE OF EMERGENCY. Hurricane Katrina was a state of emergency... So what was this? The looting? Some idiots breaking into a few stores and starting one on fire? WOW. You'd think a properly trained police force could handle that - they clearly have the proper equipment.

You know what - I'm ranting - and before I go off the deep end here, I'll stop. I wish everyone in MO safe. I also urge you to know your rights and not be intimidated into giving them up.

I didn't see that, and I'm not sure about leadership changes. The thing that stands out in my memory was the guy with the nightstick at a polling place in 2007.

They seem to be trying to play the role of security in Ferguson, directing traffic, jockeying for some sort of official permission to keep doing that after curfew at the presser on Saturday. The townspeople didn't seem to like the idea.

I don't know what the big picture is. Lots of questions though, like what is their tie in, if any, with Revolution Club Chicago that also came down?

No, I meant in the actual Vice feed.

I think it refers to the actual time of the person shot. The vice reporter was repeating something heard on police scanners, I think.

There was much more said about it at the time, but with all of the chaos, it was hard to focus on.

Yeah, as a matter of fact.. There was a white car go running through the frame about the middle of the shooting. It's was related to what I posted the first time where I thought I saw someone go down, but in watching it more carefully to get the time stamps this time? Whatever I thought I saw wasn't a person. Just a trick of the light or something in an instant of a chaotic scene. I thought I'd first seen someone next to that white car tho..

Bingo. Except they are spinning this as a response to a person shot, another brandishing a gun, and a break in at a BBQ place.

this thread is some disturbing reading...i was really hoping this would have all fizzled out but i couldn't be further from the mark....this really does seem to be leading to something much more sinister...

You are right, if the police go in heavy more people get hurt, it only takes one person to shoot a gun and its a blood bath. What I think they tried is to let it burn its self out, if there are no shops left to loot the riot stops. It seems TPTB have lost it, big time.

First of all, that guy isn't human. No change in tempo or vocal tone. "Canisters being launched at peaceful protesters...more canisters...that's gunfire..." Pretty sure he's an alien or incredibly unflappable.

Second, the shots sound much further away in his feed than in Tim's and beyond the police line, further down the road. Tim was closer to the action. Bullets were closer. One can be heard zipping through the air past him. Tim was near Chop Suey (remember the molotov). Red's BBQ was behind him, where Johnson said there were people on the roof awaiting the police. The primary police line were down towards McDonald's. So when the police came up behind Tim just before the gunfire began, they were closest to Red's, where the guys on the roof were. The question then is, how did a bullet whiz past Tim who was beyond Red's? Ricochet maybe? Or return fire?

Using Red's as a reference with this lovely map courtesy of menuism (bet they never thought they'd be dropped on a CT forum). It also has Chop Suey and McDonald's on it so it's a pretty good reference for the layout of the events (just zoom in a little to get those to appear). Go figure. www.menuism.com...

yeah i arrived late to the whole zimmerman case, so when i researched the events, i saw the aftermath of it from various perspectives, one of them being the bps. i remember thinking -- the dude was hispanic which means he's like obama, part white, part black, part something else (i'd have to research it but hispanics and egyptians are not much different in appearance). i don't see how that translates to blaming a skin color unless the point is to incite yet more racism, which is a form of jihad.

What made these cops think they would adhere to a curfew when they stand by and let them loot ?

None of this surprise's me, no one seems to have a clue what there doing and no one is stepping up to make it any better.

If I did not know better I would think this is intentionally being allowed to spin out of control... but why ?

Police guarded businesses last night after receiving criticism for not doing anything to protect them the night before.
