Moray B. King - Combining the theories of the zero-point energy with the theories of system self-organization offer opportunities to coherently harvest zero-point energy (ZPE). The energy typically couples into matter-ZPE or plasma-ZPE conglomerates. Examples include plasmoids, Shoulders electrum validum (EV) or exotic vacuum objects (EVO), inert gas clusters of the Papp engine, and most recently LeClairs water crystal formed from reentrant jets launched from collapsing, torus shaped cavitation bubbles. Here the energy could be trapped in micron-sized rings of linear water to become the primary energy source for Browns gas. Large scale, force-free (Beltrami) vortices of plasma might manifest a macroscopic ZPE coherence.

I think this is really interesting, the Universe is electric. Made of electricity...

Here's what I have to say: There's all these weird phenomena, these surprise energy releasing reactions. Mostly they happen at really unexpectedly and can't be repeated, but there are some cases where they can be, and violate what current physics seems to suggest should happen. So there is weirdness out there, and it can release unexpected amounts of energy, even creating havoc in so doing, and people don't yet understand it.

But you have to separate that from the theories these folks come up to explain it. The ones that tend toward a (neo)classical approach to quantum affairs are the ones I don't trust: The mind rebels against quantum mechanics, and wants it to go away, but it's what nature has presented us with. Classical attempts to re-explain quantum mechanics come across as wishful thinking to me.

I'm not a physics major or anything, but I like to read about it. What I gather is that if a particle could go below the current ground state - necessary to harness the zero point energy - then the uncertainty principle from QM would be wrong. That would mean everything about the particle could be known, like a classical, rather than quantum, object. Classical physics would assert itself in the middle of the quantum. However experiments I read about, like the delayed choice quantum eraser:
en.wikipedia.org...
Present situations so weird that things like teleportation through space and time would be necessary to make any kind of sense of it from a classical view, and these added assumptions would tear up the classical framework as well.

So in short, these are smart guys looking at real mysteries of the universe, but I don't think these current theories are correct... Not because they are too weird, but because they aren't weird enough

Is it not the theory itself, containing assumptions and short-cuts created from lack of knowledge that holds back the progress ?

You mention Heisenberg Uncertainty principle, good, because this is that I have the biggest problem with.
Simple said: photon in particle physics is nothing else then the energy of an EM wave.
A wave has length, therefore direction and time of interaction.
Squeezing it to a point like particle may allow simpler mathematics, sure, but it creates uncertainty instead.
