They haven't used the vehicles to deny rights, they have them because when they DO start denying people's rights, they feel they are going to need the protection of those vehicles.. That is what I meant

Like a courthouse putting in metal detectors for the first time, the day after they make the laws easier for judges to get convictions in traffic cases to generate revenue..
Like a guilty conscience makes people do telling things..

It was just an honest question. I understand you were not there. I make no assumptions if people are thugs or not thugs, jack-booted or otherwise.

From a layman's point of view, it seems the local PD was caught off guard by the scale and swiftness of all the attention. Probably not unreasonable. Their response to the public response makes sense to a degree. Get a hold of the situation, stop violence, stop destruction of property, etc. They had to do something but it feels like events just got ahead of them.

Had this happened in another city would it have gone differently? IDK
