I know Obama recently denied this was the case but I'd rather defecate in my hands and clap than listen to the words of a politician. I would like to hear some opinions as I was discussing it earlier with a colleague. Is the situation in Ukraine just another political argument that will blow over or is it going to lead on to more serious confrontations?

His argument was that it never really ended. That Russia withdrew to lick her wounds and is once again emerging as a global key player and leader. He also argued that the middle east is just going to be a series of proxy wars which I sort of agree with. I'm sure last month the russians beat the pentagon to the punch and sent fighters to aid the Iraq government. A move that was probably intended to get them on side.

China, Russia, India, and Iraq are all teaming up and making deals to delete the use of the dollar, Russia is planning on evading world sanctions by making a back door deal for oil with Iran, the US economy is struggling, we need to shore up the basis for our entire economy (military/industrial complex) we NEED a cold war. (or a hot one but this way a lot less people have to die).

Call it a "Cold War" or whatever you want to call it, but IMO, everything being done is part of the agenda of a NWO in which those with the most wealth will have their ways playing GOD.

Let's face it. When one becomes so wealthy that money is like a piece of toilet paper what else is their to do but strive for total control?

I would say its more warm than cold... awful lot of people being shot and killed to call it a cold war..

Doesn't even really seem like proxy wars right now... closer to thinly veiled wars, just gonna take one mis-step and its buckle up sally gonna be a bumpy ride.

is that part of the Pakistan/Iran deal? If I remember right the government of Pakistan couldn't afford the building of a pipe line so the Russians fronted the money to them.

exactly. The Russians sent fighter jets to Iraq to help out the Iraq government last month. US and Russian aircraft patrolling the same airspace in a War zone?...asking for trouble..

Cold War? Have you checked the news lately? It's hot.

What you might be referring to is economic warfare. The US opened up this war in 1971 and has been aggressively fighting with it's central bank and megacorp proxies since then.

Technically Russia and America are at War. they are just using other people (Ukrainians) to do the fighting.

yeah perhaps the use of the term 'cold' was a mistake. What I meant is the main players haven't came to blows (US, Russia etc) as they didn't the last time. Not directly anyway.

No. The Cold war was a non direct conflict between two powers close to equal streangth. In this case the power base is just one sided. The fact is Russia simply can not afford it. Even the small santions on it now are causing severe problems and Russia economy has lost billions and growth has stopped and will begin to shrink. Russia is also losing markets to China. And in even worse news Russia second larget arms market has been meeting with the US about forming a strategic relashionship and ending the US ban on weapon sale to Vietnam. All because Russia is helpless to do anything to help Vietnam against the Chinese.

Russia is almost isolated. Its only friends come in failed and nearly failed states. Russia desperately would like to count China as an ally but, China is just going play Russia and the US off each other and make no commitments to either. Russia counts on BRICS but, that group spends most of its time fighting with each other so that is has agreed on only one thing in 5 years and that is a bank. A group that members have so little faith in that India, Brazil and South Africa have there own more succesful group called IBSA.

The Russian military has no global reach and is a shadow of its Cold War self. A cold war? no. A regional problem like Iran or North Korea? Yes.

well that was my argument with my colleague. That it was just another hotspot region that would probably die down in time.

I feel like we are in the very early days of the 3rd world war. Here in the USA, I am happier knowing our boomer fleet has put to sea. Call it a belated check-mate if V. Putin flips out. The only way to deal with mad man with a stick, is to hold a bigger stick.
I am not to worried about the economy here, if you stand on the side of a US interstate over a million dollars worth of freight passes you by every 60 seconds. With out a doubt we are doing a few things right.
A plane crashes 1/2 a world away in a thunder storm and the US get the blame. Some ass hole in North Africa blows up a church and the US gets the blame. Some other ass hole beheads little children, and you blame the US. Well we didn't do it all. I know we screw up a lot, but it's mostly at home or we screw up with good intent at heart while trying to help. Being a world power is not easy, and it didn't come with an instruction book, It's easy to play Monday-morning quarterback, or sit on the sidelines and say the US blow it again.
I guess a lot of the world hates us Americans, probably because of our basic way of life. Here you can have as many children as you wish, unlike China, worship as you wish, unlike most of the Middle East, and even travel as you wish, unlike most of the word, equality of the sexes is a given, and most important the freedom to maintain your weapons as you wish, to protect your loved ones, and to ensure that no one tramples on your rights. Most of the ideals, nay, God given rights, earned by blood, that we take for granted as tho we are breathing air, are so misunderstood by the rest of the world that I sometimes think there can be no peace.
Presently wars are raging on at least four continents at the same time. How many wars does it take to call it a world war? How many millions need die?
For the love of our children, let's try to understand each other. Nothing makes me so sad as the misery happening world wide right now.

Just the rumblings of an old man.

I totally agree with your assessment with one caveat, the Russian Federation is a regional power who still controls the nuclear arsenal of a superpower.

It does alter the calculus somewhat.
