is that part of the Pakistan/Iran deal? If I remember right the government of Pakistan couldn't afford the building of a pipe line so the Russians fronted the money to them.

China, Russia, India, and Iraq are all teaming up and making deals to delete the use of the dollar, Russia is planning on evading world sanctions by making a back door deal for oil with Iran, the US economy is struggling, we need to shore up the basis for our entire economy (military/industrial complex) we NEED a cold war. (or a hot one but this way a lot less people have to die).
exactly. The Russians sent fighter jets to Iraq to help out the Iraq government last month. US and Russian aircraft patrolling the same airspace in a War zone?...asking for trouble..

I would say its more warm than cold... awful lot of people being shot and killed to call it a cold war..
Doesn't even really seem like proxy wars right now... closer to thinly veiled wars, just gonna take one mis-step and its buckle up sally gonna be a bumpy ride.
yeah perhaps the use of the term 'cold' was a mistake. What I meant is the main players haven't came to blows (US, Russia etc) as they didn't the last time. Not directly anyway.

Cold War? Have you checked the news lately? It's hot.
What you might be referring to is economic warfare. The US opened up this war in 1971 and has been aggressively fighting with it's central bank and megacorp proxies since then.
well that was my argument with my colleague. That it was just another hotspot region that would probably die down in time.

No. The Cold war was a non direct conflict between two powers close to equal streangth. In this case the power base is just one sided. The fact is Russia simply can not afford it. Even the small santions on it now are causing severe problems and Russia economy has lost billions and growth has stopped and will begin to shrink. Russia is also losing markets to China. And in even worse news Russia second larget arms market has been meeting with the US about forming a strategic relashionship and ending the US ban on weapon sale to Vietnam. All because Russia is helpless to do anything to help Vietnam against the Chinese.
Russia is almost isolated. Its only friends come in failed and nearly failed states. Russia desperately would like to count China as an ally but, China is just going play Russia and the US off each other and make no commitments to either. Russia counts on BRICS but, that group spends most of its time fighting with each other so that is has agreed on only one thing in 5 years and that is a bank. A group that members have so little faith in that India, Brazil and South Africa have there own more succesful group called IBSA.
The Russian military has no global reach and is a shadow of its Cold War self. A cold war? no. A regional problem like Iran or North Korea? Yes.
