What I have up right now is Twitter #FergusonRiot, #TheAnonMessage, #Ferguson, the reddit page running for this, and then St Lou Public Radio which seems the best of the sources for generating original stuff everyone else is copying from.

tip: My fiance just told me that twitter is trying to block the mobile feed for anyone using #Ferguson. We may not be able to get too much more info from anyone at the scene via twitter, unless they figure out another hashtag.

Des...if not allowed to post this one I'll delete it.

Well at least they were nice and gave you the friendly wave for letting them pass. Maybe when they raid everyone in town you'll get lucky and it will be the same guy and he'll remember you!! (Sorry, I know that was in bad taste but humor sometimes is the only way to think about these things.)

Why in the hell would they be trying to block even more information coming out of there??? It's coming from civilians FFS!!! They are acting like this is GAZA or something. Hell, we know more about GAZA!!!

Really not sure, caught me off guard as well. If I had to guess, it's to keep sensitive info off the airwaves. Kinda reminds me of the Boston/Watertown scanner feeds, with them basically saying "shut the hell up, radio silence." once word got out that their comms were being listened to online.

Possible they might have a decoder of some sort, sounds like computer generated Morse. Or perhaps a few specialized units are trained with knowledge of Morse comms. Maybe even something as benign as EMT dispatch.

Maybe Highway Patrol, in my state, you have to have to have at least a Bachelor's degree to become a State Trooper, all the ones I know are pretty sharp cookies.

So anyone else think that maybe someone had some "professionals" bussed in just to make sure things popped off enough to justify the next step of the Police State??

Despite the whole scary militarization, wich i find terrifying, i don't see much difference from the protests we had in my country this year:

-Media silence.
-Social media as the only source of info.
-Politicians are not saying a word.
-Cops (in my case it was the Nazional Guard and the Nazional Police) acting like killer robots.

I know the protests started for a good, a VERY GOOD REASON. But they turned into chaos, looting and destruction of businesses. The police HAS to step in to re-establish order and take the wrongdoers into jail, provided it doesn't turn into a shootout.

What you're missing:

-National Guard or Policemen actually doing the looting, burning and destruction of private property(cars, businesses, houses, apartments) along with coming into people's houses looking for "terrorists".
If these people keep spreading chaos and mayhem, they will be branded terorrists.

This is not a protest anymore. it has lost its focus.
Let it cool off for a few days or a week, then take the streets without it turning into something different than a protest.

That's just it. We may not know if they were doing any of that stuff because there is so little coverage. That is the strangest part to me. Riots happen and people go nuts now and then. It is the USA after all and our culture isn't exactly the most cool and collected. However, the blackout of any coverage with such pre-planning is what gets me.

I've just never known there to be such compliance and planning and such an organized lockdown like this. I'm not sure if I should be impressed or horrified by the new skills and tactics of LEO's.

yes, I think you are right. However, the differences between your country and mine in its scope and relativistic response means we are singularly horrified, because we think of this country as kind of "free," still, while your country is much less innocent, on the whole, of the quantified reaction to such, in the street.

In America, we still think the constitution means something meaningful…in other words, no one will fire tear gas in your back yard if you're not actively involved, or even if you are….

it's just a difference, and a mighty big one, between living in America when these things erupt and what it may mean in another country when they erupt. Here, the difference in response tells us something about the state of our constitution, whether we are truly operating under a "free" society, as long as we obey the rules of the constitution.
Where in other countries, we understand the constitutions are totally up for grabs, dependent upon the current ruling party….

Here, it shouldn't matter so much. Thus, you see our consternation….

Context would be nice. Police shot someone, or vice-versa?

The reality is the majority of police in America are inadequately provisioned for the daily threat they encounter.

Based on the above pictures and heck just the averaged cop that walks around with a tazer, baton, pepper spray, a pistol and a shotgun and rifle in his or her car, how can you say they are inadequately provisioned??
What citizen is walking around with that much of an arsenal?

The Police are far from average citizens. THEY RISK THEIR LIVES TO PROTECT YOURS.

Yes there are instances where they cross the line, they have in the past covered up things like child abuse for the catholic church, yes they will protect the rights of a corporation before those of the citizens the corporation has plundered BUT the majority of people in the western World can go to sleep at night safe that they wont be woken by criminals trying to rape them or take all they own.

Again police are not the problem they are a consequence of the want of everybody wanting more control.

Not much context, someone said a man attacked the police and they shot him but it wasnt a reliable source. The online feed just got cut too.

Have you seen the weapons you can legally own in America. Australia and the UK are very different due to the gun laws we have.

If I was a police officer in the US I would want as much military hardware as possible to make it home to my family at the end of the day.

Look at the amount of guns being held at that guys head?
How can anyone justify holding guns at an unarmed man?

Do you think he is holding a Tommy Gun (machine gun) from the Prohibition Era? The types of weapons in the streets American's are allowed to hold has decreased while the weapons and tools police are allowed to use has increased.

The amount and type of guns have not changed in society but the equipment and tactics police are allowed to use has.
