American General Killer : 3 years in Afghan Army , used NATO machine-gun to kill from bathroom

The killer / assasin was revealed as an insider who waited for 3 years to kill high value target. Liked it or hated it , it took some serious dedication and skill to hide among the enemy for 3 years waiting for a chance like this. This along with the Camp Chapman CIA massacre should be included among the best assasination attempt in afghanistan theatre..

The americans should learned something from the british empire, how the afghan tribal lords are treacherous and will stab you if you turned your back on them. They dont find it dishonorable to befriend their enemy, gain their trust and then stab them from behind.

The Afghan soldier who killed a U.S. general and wounded other top officers at a military academy near Kabul fired two to three bursts of gunfire from a bathroom before he was killed by Afghan forces, a Defense Department official said Wednesday.

The investigation into Tuesday's killing of Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene, the highest-ranked U.S. officer to be slain in combat since 1970 in the Vietnam War, has not yet determined a motive, said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the investigation.

The shooting wounded about 15 people, including a German general and two Afghan generals. The attacker went by one name, Rafiqullah, an Afghan official told the Associated Press in Kabul.

He fired from the window of a first-floor bathroom, the Pentagon official said. Greene and the other troops were outside, attending a presentation at the Marshal Fahim National Defense University. It is unclear what type of weapon he used. There was no indication that Greene or any other person was targeted.

Greene, a 34-year U.S. Army veteran and two-star general, was the highest-ranked American officer killed in combat in the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. About half of the wounded in Tuesday's attack at Marshal Fahim National Defense University were Americans, several of them reported to be in serious condition.

Rafiqullah, in his early 20s, had joined the Afghan army more than two years ago and came from the country's eastern Paktia province, the Pentagon and Afghan officials said. On Tuesday, Rafiqullah had just returned from a patrol around the greater Camp Qargha, west of the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Least he had the guts to attack a military target rather than a civilian.

I know we may consider it treacherous but honour does not win wars. Its likely why we are failing.

I'll add that hiding in plain sight all that time and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike was indicative of his skill and patience but the actual moment chosen to strike was more timing and luck. The link states he had just returned from a patrol so he was armed (probably his issue AK). He also knew the "presentation" was about to happen and excused himself to "go to the bathroom" that overlooked the presentation grounds.

Americans love a parade.

The uncertainty this creates will sadly push many more returning soldiers into mental health situations as they try to reintegrate into normal life where the instinct to perceive a threat in everything and everyone lingers within their minds.

Isnt PTSD caused by traumatic experience in combat like being constantly in fear of the enemy and after killing innocent civilians and felt guilty about it ?

he was armed with a machine gun, thats why he got so many ppl ..

if he can extract himself safely, that would be the mark of a good assasin..

agreed with him or not, that patience / skill he showed including the high ranking target(s) , this operation should be considered as a 'special force' type operation.. like some british intelligence trying to assasinate hitler
