Heck. I'll admit it. I saw the first movie installment, and rather enjoyed it.
And yes, I am somewhat disappointed the rest of the story won't be given screen time. The imagery was beautiful, the storytelling interesting, and I couldn't give two wits about the author's personal vendetta against any religious institution.
I'm there for a different perspective and alternate universe - not a new ideology to replace my personal convictions...storytelling is storytelling. Nothing more, nothing less.
If one's Faith and Conviction is so shaky that one can't sit through a work of fiction without being offended or worried about "the Devil's Hand" at play....maybe they need to question their own concepts about their personal "god".
From where I'm sitting, the offended parties and their rationale behind the boycott is just simply ridiculous and stuck in the Dark Ages of superstition and fearful xenophobia.
I had no idea there was even a motion among Catholics to boycott this film!
No one in our Parish even mentioned boycotting....and nothing was said against Harry Potter for that matter either.
Makes me wonder how many people online just decided to make themselves "Catholic" just for a quick buck in revenue by proxy/association to the Church...most of the websites I've found condemning these literary works don't really strike me as legitimate for some reason.
But that's another story for another time.
And, on the bright side - the books are still out there on the shelves....and not as watered down as the movie.

You don't need to be a die hard or fundamentalist to be against the series. It undermines the very foundations of Christianity. An ex-nun character describes Christianity as "a very powerful and convincing mistake". God is depicted as malevolent and senile, a character called "the authority", who lies about being the creator of the universe.
