I have a feeling you are referring to something like an R/C quadcopter, which is NOT a "drone". A drone carries missiles and is capable of taking out muslim weddings at 15,000 feet.

i'm not the one who writes for the newspaper, but a drone is a common term for any unmanned aerial vehicle. they could have easily called it a UAV

Until we've developed proper AI, they're all Remotely Controlled than such an abbreviation is redundant.

We have the tech to make them fly without human control. Google has self driving cars.

I really don't care how you describe the vehicle, that was a nice flight, and well controlled landing.

Google is developing self-driving cars.

I'm not aware that there are drones that do full missions on their own however, from take-off to landing?

I expect quacopters to become illegal once ppl start using them to film police brutality and offer live feeds of crimes as they happen independent from the mainstream media and counter "official" stories.

Despite filming from a fair distance and not "interfering with arrests".

That is so cool.. I have the DJI Phantom and love it.. It's a mid grade quad copter with camera.. I'll continue using this one until I learn to pilot better.. There great for wild life shots, sunsets and rises.. I haven't tried using it for police locations yet but, it's an idea..

They boy (9) has already wanted to pilot it down to his lil girly friends house.. Had a heck of a time explaining to him how that wasn't cool..

So far it isn't illegal and I don't need any permits or license .. I'm sure as popularity grows so will the bureaucracy..
