But to me, that's kind of like finishing off your meat loaf and mashed potatoes. Then just before you dig into that beautiful chunk of chocolate cake, you say "Can I have some more meat loaf and mashed potatoes?"

Not sure quite what your point is here. Fundamental truths are fundamental truths, regardless of whether not you've had your fill.

Well taken. The point of my obscure metaphor, is to say that our future is so much more promising than our past.
If we were obliged to start all over again, we would eventually get to where we essentially are now. But, damn it!
I am impatient. I want my chocolate cake! I know that our future will be so much more rewarding than our past.
How do I know that? Because of our past! (and present) Just imagine!
