That whole "competition (for) survival of the fittest" paradigm was always more a culture-bound male bias interpretation than actual observation.

I have always wondered something similar. If the reason we accept the survival of the fittest theory is because it fits so well with our capitalist paradigm...

Exactly. It's ideological, NOT scientific. And don't forget, the guy who coined the phrase "survival of the fittest" was Galton (not Darwin) - he also developed the concept of Eugenics. Says a lot.

Wow. Just like they say, plants thrive when we speak to them or play music.

I can't even begin to imagine the impacts on trees from all the worlds noise pollution, the kind that's not so friendly.

This got me thinking.

I thought about The Happening too. I actually liked that movie . If anyone here hasn't seen it, give it a go. Another poster mentioned if the tress started refusing to give us oxygen well... a little along those lines but I won't give away the plot.
