I imagine predator-style cloak invisibility an optional extra.

Why even bother. Iron Man is fantasy. Its not possible to design anything even close to its capabilities in such a small package.

Build a Gundam instead. Destroy entire armies. Problem solved. No more need for soldiers because they wouldnt survive for 5 seconds in battle.

Call it a first step in that direction.

In truth I too am surprised they went with this.
For the last decade or longer--- DOD has been all about micro UAV's.

The idea of having a drone the size of a bee sound's kind of silly at first, until you realize they want to be able to land that drone on the back of a hostiles neck where a micro sized explosive would blow his head off...

No, there not there yet, but that's their goal... rather than having one guy in a Gundam... they would have thousand, tens of thousands of these smart exploding bee's.

I can only assume this change is due to the bee drones taking longer to developed than they hoped?
Either that or they hired Stan Lee to consult for the Pentagon?

Maybe a micro reactor would be useful for this kind of tech. Do we have micro reactors? I remember something about virus batteries at MIT that may work.

I remember seeing something about virus batteries made at MIT, perhaps they could serve as a power supply.

If they flew and were powered exo suits that would make them far better in my opinion.
