With the upcoming elections in Iraq 1500 more US Troops are being sent to serve in Iraq and extending the stays of more than 10,000 troops already there. 150,000 troops will be in Iraq, an all time high the Pentagon says. A Gen. George Casey asked for the increase of troops stating that it would help the US keep the momentum gained by the troops over the insurgents. Troops from 2 battalions of the 82nd Airborne in Fort Bragg, North Carolina will be dispatched up to 4 months in Iraq, a unit that is constantly on standby to be deployed anywhere in the world on 18 hours' notice.
They will be there to provide security for the January 30th elections.
