Rebels from northern and eastern Syria on Wednesday threatened to lay down their arms in a week if the country’s exiled opposition does not help them fight the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“We, the leaders of the brigades and battalions... give the National Coalition, the (opposition) interim government, the (rebel) Supreme Military Council and all the leading bodies of the Syrian revolution a week to send reinforcements and complete aid,” the statement said.

“Should our call not be heard, we will lay down our weapons and pull out our fighters,” it added.

Syrian rebels threaten to quit fight against ISIS

Interesting times in Syria...

Some FSA bodies have threatened to lay down arms and cease their fight against ISIS, the extreme Islamic terrorist outfit which recently declared an Islamic Caliphate. They threaten that the actions will be undertaken in one week's time, providing essential support it not given to them.

In my personal opinion, this is not a good thing. While i believe that the civil war in Syria will be better resolved by the existing Syrian government (rather than the moderate opposition), the retreating of the moderate rebels will only bolster ISIS. If the rebels pull out, you can bet your bottom dollar that it would be one of the final blows to the moderate factions in Syria. They mostly hold the northern areas around Aleppo, which are threatened by ISIS. If the rebels pull out, ISIS would have a greater chance of taking the city of Aleppo, thereby effectively ending the opposition's campaign against them, and the Syrian government. This is due to the fact that Aleppo is seen as the capital city and hub of the moderate opposition.

This is not a good development.

This is a great development, unfortunately it looks like we will be giving them half a billion dollars worth of weapons and training..

How is it a great development?

I would rather have a diplomatic end to the civil war, where the FSA and the Syrian government resolve problems peacefully. If not, i would rather the Syrian government claim victory and hold proper democratic elections. If ISIS takes Aleppo, it would pretty much signify the destruction of the moderate opposition force. At least then, it may provide the USA with some incentive to work with the Syrian government, but i don't consider this to be a good development. ISIS will not negotiate, and they will be a harder force to defeat than the moderate rebels.

The USA is already supplying selected rebels with training and equipment, but i do not agree with their tactics. It would be better to support a diplomatic resolution. Such an act would be impossible if ISIS takes Aleppo, however.

Something to think about though with this development.

People are pretty miffed that Obama is wanting $500 million to send the rebels. Also, I haven't heard much of the Syrian Rebels fighting ISIS. To be truthful, the MSM in the US isn't talking much about anyone fighting them! However, with the internet, I was able to find quite a few articles saying that Iran AND Syria, seemed to be the only ones fighting ISIS!

With that being said, I look at this as propaganda and I will explain why.

It isn't a secret that the globalists want Assad out. So the easy way is to arm the Rebels. Considering that I haven't seen anything about the Syrian Rebels actually fighting ISIS, I see this as an underhanded way to convince the masses that it is a necessity to arm the Rebels to stop ISIS, when in fact it is nothing more than a scheme to arm the rebels to take down Assad when this news about ISIS is forgotten about by the MSM.

Anyhow, just my thoughts on it. I could be wrong.........

Such an act is impossible with or without their withdraw....The Caliph has his goals and will see them out or die trying. In a way you kinda have to respect it actually, its been maybe a month since this hit the spotlight and look how far they have come. Normally these things are a lot of flash but no dazzle but this Caliph is turning out to be a real player with a real goal.

Will he realize this goal? Probably not.
Will lots of people suffer and die needlessly? Absolutely

Smokescreen nonesense and propaganda. Surely you don't believe the hype.

Oh the heroic "moderate" rebels will not help us fight this great evil, you know the not so moderate rebels, unless you send troops and equipment".......like 500 million, nudge nudge, wink wink.

Can these war games be anymore transparent? Thousands of years of refining war propaganda and this is the best we can muster. I miss the days of airplanes crashing into targets, at least that was believable.

Have all Americans become so bitch-whipped by the Govt that they have no personal ambitions or dreams of glory....

I regularly fantasize about world domination and I don't even have a decade of experience and a small army to see them through.

Maybe the Caliph is just dreaming big.....

I have several goals and highly ambitious. My ambitions don't require me to lie or spill blood. Sorry if yours does.

Assad 20, Rebels 0.....

It would be better for them to drop their arms and leave regardless of what support is coming... If Assad was going anywhere he would of already been toppled. I'm beginning to admire Assad for how he has dealt with this problem in his country... The man's army can fight a war, that's for sure.

I would tend to agree he had made some calculations and heeded advice in opportune times but I also think he is being used as a proxy by Iran, Russia possibly China and other nations who don't wish to see a unipolar world. Syria appears to be a linchpin for Iranian and Hezzbollah influence. Removing Syria makes it easy to wipe out Hezzbollah, Hamas, etc. while at the same time removing a major buffer to Iran.

He is probably the MVP of our time whether he knows it or not.....lest Damascus falls, anyways.

That's because you are a civilized human being who cares about others and who isn't so seeped in absurd religious rhetoric that you can't see straight. That's not the situation over there. Unless everyone over there is of the same mentality as you, and they aren't, then your diplomatic solution isn't going to happen. It can't happen. People there haven't evolved enough. And there is no 'fresh air' coming in. It's all closed society 'think like us or die' crap.

NO NO NO these guys have got it all wrong. You don't quit tell America gives you everything you need to fight.

Then you lay down your arms and run back home or join up with ISIS.

The CIA needs to educate these guys a little better, you don't quit tell you have the STUFF to rearm ISIS...all together now !

The US accepted Stalin and fought with him to fight and destroy a greater enemy in Hitler.

You mean to tell me these Obama jerk offs don’t understand they have to tell the Syrian rebels, we have a greater cause than yours, fighting the lunatics from ISIS, so back off. Make a deal with Assad or the hell with you.

The wimp Obama doesn’t have the balls to do this. Any president with any sense or independence would have done that. But not this phoney fraud Obama, who let's Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton do his job, he hides behind their skirts and gets pissed on all the time. I wonder does he like it.

It isn't like it wasn't expected or anything.

Funnily Obama is about to give them $500m, wonder where that would end up?
