EQ's are very common in AK. 8.0 is high tho.

Before you guys freak out...........look at that map, its CM above sea level Tsunami.......at most its a 3 foot tall tsunami.....

i,m getting this on breaking news an hour a go and since then the hight has disapeared,if it was a worry it wud still be major news.where its died a death since.

Yeah, I suggested that 2 hours ago. Nobody knew how high the tsunami would get or how soon, or where it would hit. It's always better safe than sorry in that case, assuming is never a good idea.

Another aftershock, 6.9, these aftershocks are very large!

We actually did not get a warning up here since there was no need. The populated areas up here are a huge distance from where those quakes occur.

6 have happened over 8.3 since 1906, with the largest being the 9.2 that did huge damage from here to California. 26 over 7 since 1900.

The map on the right side of this page is worth looking at if interested.

The Aleutian Islands cover 1200 miles and I'm guessing that quake was maybe 1300+ from Anchorage. The alert must have been adjusted before it hit our TV screens and radio. Unless I missed it.

On a lighter note, the first one to blame it on Fracking has to clean the toilet

at least as far as we , ie mortals,, know. or understand yet,,

I'm no seismologist but i thought of the tohoku disaster as soon as I saw this especially seeing as how they were both located in the northern pacific. I'm glad there was no damage done to the Alaskan coast or little sitkin island but honestly I was prepared to hear of the worst.
