Military Considers Shopping Perk for Most Veterans

The U.S. military is looking into allowing all of the nation's veterans who served honorably to shop online at exchanges that sell discounted, name-brand goods — a perk that is currently available only to a small minority.

Sounds good to me, i know a lot of vets who would like to online shop AAFES.
I know it isn't much but its a start right?

I didnt know that vets couldnt already shop AAFES online. I know many that still have access to the PX and commissary on base, I just figured that AAFES online would also be available.

News to me, but good, why isnt this already the case...

Same. Should have already been in place ages ago.

But they want to shut down the Commissaries...smh

the prices are NOT better than costco or anywhere else.

this is a no go as far as being a "benefit" and is a marketing scheme to garner customers to keep the system alive. they do not do stuff FOR you. they do stuff TO you.

active duty sailors (my personal experience, 25 years Navy) do not like the exchange. it isn't a good deal. period. check prices yourself before hammering me.

Just like any other store in the world, some things are better priced than others.
A few things you can get cheaper at exchange stores, but the majority will be the same price or in some cases higher priced than civilian stores.

That works for me. Tax free is the way to be.

The military always overpays for stuff, I can't figure how it would be cheaper for veterans to buy from them. Maybe they will sell it below cost and taxpayers will foot the bill.

You can get some great deals if you don't treat it like a walmart and do your shopping homework

As a veteran, and someone who still has privileges to shop at exchanges, I don't know why I'd want to. It really isn't any cheaper than some stores like Wallmart, and I know I can get better deals for electronics and such from amazon. So....thanks but no thanks.
