I have been actively following the Iraq situation and I am concerned America is giving up the ghost, the amount of sentiment that its all too hard,we've lost too much, spent too much, cant win etc is frankly frightening not just here you probably expect as much on a conspiracy website but also mainstream sites such as salon.com from the left and Free Republic of the right which in 2001 after 9-11 was full of gung ho enthuisiasm and America can do it spirit. Now I understand we are tired of war my country too has its scores of dead, ongoing suicides and all the rest of it but our government has indicated it will help Iraq if asked.

With this ISIS we have a clear case of evil that must be checked if we dont they will come to our shores and wreak havoc in due course as its leader Al Bagdhadi said upon his release 'see you in New York',but there is no will to deal with them from the President down,300 advisors is a token jesture so he is seen to be doing something.

The approval of government is at an all time low and you now seem like a nation divided not united under a common cause but with an increasing desire for isolationism.I understand corporate interests, banker wankers and all that but would the world truly be any better if Russia or China were number one I think not.Whats your opinion has America been mentally run into the ground,is there still hope for a reinvigorated and vibrant America again?

I'm an optimist so I don't see our response towards Iraq as being a sign of the US becoming "defeatist". I see it as a sign of the US becoming more pragmatic and a little pragmatism could go a long way for our country. As far as becoming isolationist, if it means closing our coffers to external expenses so that we don't go belly up as a nation, I'm for that as well. As my grandpa once said, "spend only what you have in your hands--not what you think you're going to have".

I don't speak for my entire country but I can say that a significant number of my friends and even my dentist are glad that we are not sending troops into Iraq. The one thing that most people I know agree upon is that it is time to pay attention to the problems in our own backyards and not everybody elses'. The negativity is an in general irritation with the direction that our political arena is going. Going back to war, at this point in time, is just going to add more to our tremendous deficit and divert from our issues at home.

How happy would you be to have a hot mess helping you out?

Americans are no longer in control of the decision making processes at the top. Up there, they continue to think they can control this and that country, sect or tribe. Meddling in other countries internal affairs is the last thing America should be doing, period.

There is no end to the infighting and vendettas on the part of some religious sect or cultural clash.

But hey, the good ship lollipop and missile cruisers are in bound, right? To put Humpty Dumpty back together?

Or just pound the rubble one more time…

Bush...Is that you? No? Cheney? No? How about you Mrs Clinton? No? ahhhh...Obama? No?

Hmmmmm...I know I've heard all this before. Just can't think of where or when....But I could probably guess a few hundred more possibilities.

Peace

America has fifty states. Last time I checked none of them are called "Iraq".

George Washington warned us about the dangers of foreign influence and entanglements.

For the last fifty years, we've ignored those warnings. It's time to heed them once again.

I think the OP is the wrong question to ask. America has been doing exactly as those that control it have intended. Tptb are playing the long game for total control. Gotta see the larger game board and understand who the pieces really are.

Just how are they going to get to our shores swim? This is the same crap the wannabe nation builders spew to get America to stick it's nose in where it doesn't belong. Let Iraq fight it's own civil war Hezbollah and Iran both said they would help Iraq if they wanted help and that is how it should be dealt with.

Exactly right. we worry so much about other nations that we have let our own fall apart. Enough already!!

America has screwed up Iraq so badly according to the rest of the world and according to our own leadership that why on earth should we go back to screw it up even more.

We have a president who is doing his best to turn our country into a third world dictatorship -
we are too occupied with the downfall of our own country to
worry about someone else's hundreds of years old conflict (between muslim sects)

We are broke

We are tired of being the worlds police
and then being excoriated for it

We are being overun with children from south america who are humping like rabbits in our
"humanitarian" facilities - and our President wants us to keep these "children" with all the diseases they carry
So we have our own humanitarian crisis
we don't have the time or energy or manpower to save the rest of the world

If the rest of the world is so concerned they are certainly free to do something without us

If the arab countries are so concerned they too are free to do something too

Why always do our people have to die in fights that are basically hatfield/mccoy battles that have lasted hundreds of years - that is a losing battle from the start
so why start

Yes America is tired - broke - defeated from within by our spying lying President wanna be Dictator - we just want to be left the h--l alone.

Let the rest of the world do a little finger lifting once in a while, get off their butts and go do something if they think it needs doing - we are done, finis, outa here

How they get there would be via Mexico I imagine I agree with no ground forces but without airpower the task of rooting this lot out becomes much more difficult,it just seems your administration has been caught with its pants down the ISIS creation has gone Frankenstein and is pure evil and rather than do whats right morally its more concerned with midterm elections.

What you are seeing is the same morass that existed during the Carter Administration.

I do not see any candidates or leaders that have a glimmer of hope of improving the morale of the country. None...perhaps we will be pleasantly surprised come 2016, but I doubt it. I suspect it will be more of the same.

One has to wonder if the fed govt has become too big for a single executive (President) to manage effectively.

Except during the Carter administration the media acknowledged it and even had a misery index.

Now the media is directly involved in a cover up of the morass, which makes it worse.
Why?
Because people are fed up and frustrated that the media is pretending everything is ok, making the people even more frustrated and angry at the federal government.
At least when the media acknowledged it the people had hope that with acknowledgement could come repair, which happened in the 80's.
Now with all the coverups and lies, there is only frustration and a building seething resentment.

I think its a bigger shift than Carter there used to be a large block of Christian conservatives to go against the Democrats to make it a healthier 2 party system but they weren't evident last election I know there is the tea party but the reality is without either the hispanic or womens vote the Republicans probably cant win (the other major minority votes Democrat)the Republicans have neither of these blocks in their camp I suppose they could field Rubio on the ticket but he has the same Goldman Sachs etc baggage as the rest.

Hopefully its not another Bush vs Clinton contest in any event the Democrats could probably put Charles Manson on the ticket and still win because the average voter no longer is bothered and probably only the true believers still vote and the Democrats have more of those,at least in Australia we now have a billionaire who has started a third party that is gaining ground which other than being very entertaining is very healthy as our system needed an enema,he may not ever run the country but if he gets the balance of power there will be more review and debate and a lot less rubber stamping, perhaps America missed this opportunity with Perot.

As long as the mass media is controlled by the Democrats and they are afraid to do or say anything to upset the Democrats we will have one party rule which will end in a defacto Dictatorship - which will lead to a steeper and steeper disconnect between the average American and the government than already exists.

The American mass media lost its courage and integrity and a true spirit of journalism during the Clinton administration and became a major player in the Democratic Party propoganda wing. That's why Bush was torn to shreds by the media during his entire administration and they said things about him that were far worse than anything anyone has ever said about Obama.

Can't trust CBS,NBC,MSNBC,ABC to give Americans real news as long as they have brothers, sisters and spouses who are directly employed by Obama and the Democratic leadership.

American's feel betrayed and that is why they are turning to alternative media in droves to try and get the truth instead of the twisted truths (lies) of the current administration.

I hope the Tea Party wipes out everyone in the midterm elections. Nothing like a third party to shake things up and give some hope back to the American people.

The media has excoriated the Tea Party, who are mostly just average joes who are fed up with the government as it is today. To see what a threat the media finds the average people to be, look at all the lies they have made up about what Tea Party people are (racist, homophobic, gun toting, ultraconservative judgmental christians) - I've been to a Tea Party rally and not one person fit any of those stereotypes, and there were even "gasp" people of color in attendance.

As long as the average person feels that the government doesn't give a rip what they think and the government does whatever it wants regardless of the consequences to Americans; and the media sucks up to the Democrats and refuses to be journalists preferring to be lackies for Obama; Americans will continue to drop deeper into a morass of anger and frustration at anything the government attempts to do.

I agree with biased media in the 1990's we had Pauline Hanson a fish and chip shop owner try to start the One Nation party the media crucified her called her a dumb housewife, xenophobic etc and tptb brought on never ending lawsuits until it all collapsed in a screaming heap an ordinary citizen has very little chance of going against the establishment. We now have Clive Palmer a billionaire who disgruntled with the state liberal party started his own at both state and federal levels, now this guy has the resources to handle the litigation and can handle the heat,he calls a spade a spade,is not averse to using expletives and calls it as it is even telling one journalist he had his head up his arse. The Murdoch press in particular-which supports the liberal party(right) tries to portray the man an an eccentric and dangerous lunatic but the media is failing his support is growing from 5 to 10 to 15 percent and he now has enough Senators to as of July hold the balance of power. There is no doubt this guy will look after himself but in his media appearances he has good ideas and obviously good business acumen.
