Now how stupid would everyone feel if it was always spelled "Berenstain" in any universe, and just a case that (almost) everyone misperceived it because 'Berenstein' is a more typical spelling for a name.

Of course you will never know for sure since, in this universe, it has always been "Berenstain".

Yeah, you're likely right. Children do that all the time, making preconceived notions on the spelling of names based on traditional and cultural trends.

Who here that remembers "Stein" has ever had a feeling that you may have died before? I don't mean reincarnated. I mean died and continued on in another timeline almost the same as the one you left but not quite??

I think this is a great question! (and I understand you're hesitant to stick your neck out for criticism, but don't feel so shy or embarrassed. I think you're on the right track.)

When I was a teenager I was fighting some seriously advanced cancer. They cut open my abdomen 14 inches to do some exploratory surgery, and to biopsy the tissues. I ended up with massive internal bleeding that the surgeon said she was unable to control. In fact it was so close that they told my mother I wouldn't make it, to prepare for the worst. I was not conscious for days.

For no reason whatsoever, the bleeding stopped and I woke up like nothing ever happened. All the doctors involved in my treatment admitted it was a miracle; they all expected me to die from uncontrollable blood loss.

To make matters worse, I had to start chemotherapy immediately, as I was fast slipping. During the first regimen of chemo, I had what I believe qualifies as an NDE. I had a bad reaction and a 106F fever that they also had a very difficult time controlling. (I had the brief NDE, and then seemed to come 'back down' into the fever episode.)

I came very close two times in a matter of weeks. Maybe I did some hopping around, who knows.

To this day, I still meet doctors who look at my medical history and ask point-blank, "How are you still alive?"

(Thanks for allowing me to share this somewhat off-topic account. However, I believe it may be relevant to Kangaruex4Ewe's line of inquiry, as well as relevant to others who suspect an NDE correlation.)

Hi Kangaruex4Ewe!!

I just want to be clear about one thing...I have NO doubt that the 'stain' people have valid memories. I certainly don't doubt my own memories, or my kids'. We are all big readers, and pay attention to spelling.

This to me is about much more than just memory....it's about different realities. This concept is difficult to grasp, but that doesn't mean that it's without merit.

I love how we are discussing it, and trying to make sense of it all.
I can't let it go either...and frankly, I don't want to. I want to keep reading the differing perspectives.
A part of me feels like we are onto something...something big.
It's awesome! lol

jacygirl

That is the cusp of this Jacy, we ARE onto somthing big.

The problem is, none of us know what, I wish TheOneElectric would have returned, I am telling you guys, this guy has knowledge we need.

He is one of 2 people I have ever read that can talk about metaphysics and get me to actually take them serious.

Problem is the guy is a ghost, he pops in, makes amazing posts and goes, and then comes back or not.

If anyone knows more than us that we know here on ATS it is him.

We are missing somthing here, we need a single spark in the night to show us the next step down this path.

I have been racking my brain for 2 days now, and the best I can get is a half thought, that might be worth somthing, but it isnt complete.

Ok here it is, I am going to throw out my "half complete thought" maybe you guys have another piece of this pie to add to it.

I think this is some great...just grand plan that makes us so small we are bacteria trying to listen to and understand Mozart. We are a less than a flea on a seeing eye dog in a gallery full of Van Gogh Starry starry night.

This goes without saying, go outside and look up at night.

But what if we are being given, through sheer luck( honestly what were the chances a childs book would be the catalyst to start this conversation?) a chance at seeing the actual divine?

Not necessarily the mind of God, but maybe a scribbled note he threw in the trash.

A side note to the infinite.( side note I am not religious in the traditional sense of the word, I believe in no established religions, but I do believe, more along the lines of the native americans "Great Spirit")

I think this is most likely a way for us to see that this world is not as it seems, and the the many spectacles this universe play out at the cosmic quantum AND relative perspectives at all times.

Maybe it is time travel changing things, maybe it is the universe unfolding itself to us at last, maybe it is just a simpe case of us all drinking way too much fluoridated water..........

Told you it was half a thought.

It took half a page and said nothing.

But it could matter if anothers views could counter point this, thus bringing the whole closer to the visible surface.

PLZ TheOneElectric, come back, talk more, drop hints, tell us we are stupid whatever it takes, just take this splinter out of my mind someone.

I do not talk like this, I write about physics, I talk about science and understood reality.......This is beyond my depth as I understand it, or is that the point? The remove a portion of the shroud that blinds?

PLZ I just need numbers or facts that I can quantify, I feel I am going insane here.

Oh breadcrumbs on the trail how I marvel at you.

To those still wondering about the Truth. The Absolute Truth and not just this petty Stein Stain argument. Every single possible universe that could be created has been created within the subatomic consciousness of the atom. This illusion known as the manifest universe is made of consciousness. Awareness and consciousness are two sides of the same coin. The manifest and the unmanifest are One. The Atom and therefore Consciousness itself has a life span of 100 billion trillion years, while Awareness is immortal and eternal. The multiverse exists in you not You in it. One must remember that at the highest dimension there is no time there is no space, everything single possible universe that could have ever made, that universe already exists in what is known as The Eternal Now. The breakfast you ate yesterday, your death bed, the moment of you being born, a universe where you died on the birthing table, a universe where your parents never met, a universe where the Nazis finished the atomic bomb, your next reincarnation, your 729th reincarnation, a universe where the utopia we once had on Atlantis and Lemuria never got destroyed by sinking into the oceans due to gaseous chambers underneath them, they are all existing at the same time. There is a universe where the Berenstains did not get their name changed or by accidental misspelling by immigration clerks and it's still Stein and thus thread never gets made. I come from "The Berenstein Bears Universe. I read at a college level at a very young age and there is no way on Earth I would have read Stain as Stein ( Stayn vs Steen) I will chalk this one up as two universes touching and transmitting parts of each other's but not all of collective consciousness to each other's timelines to one another. As most of you should know by now if you have done your homework as I have that one such place where universes touch is in the Bermuda Triangle. Other places as well quite randomly. The truth is you were never born. This is all a play of consciousness. You are not the body or the mind. You are the unborn Awareness. I do not have to prove to you intellectually that you know you know you exists. That is how you know that you ARE Awareness.

In closing, You Are Fully God and Fully Human just like Jesus Christ and Lord Buddha but you don't remember that you found a way to cram that infinitely powerful awareness into this little tiny fleshly vehicle to play this game of life to pass the time. You are everything and nothing at the same time. Go venture within and find your True Self instead of contemplating this Stein/Stain, Dilemma/Dilemna.

And....the frustration continues.

Kangaru...I definitely DID u2u you a nice message AND the link. It must have gone to you in another dimension?

Serdgiam...Thank you. I really do appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me, even if I still can't quite grasp the concept.

Everybody...Some great theories! Even if we never accomplish anything here, it's sure getting us to think, isn't it?

I haven't had a near death experience that I'm aware of, although I did have a time period in my life when I was very sick, and believed that I was indeed dying.

I was a school volunteer when my kids were younger. I was there almost every day, reading, tutoring, fund-raising, etc. I have a bunch of my kids' friends on facebook (which I don't frequent), and I'm tempted to do a poll, and ask them all to tell me which name they remember. Perhaps even see if any of them still have their old books.
Not that it will help, lol...as apparently some peoples' OLD books now say STAIN.

This conundrum is like a mosquito bite that I just have to keep scratching at. I still believe that we have stumbled onto 'something'. I have remarkable recall, great memory...I'm not doubting myself at all here.

I refuse to say that the 'stain' people are wrong....it's not about wrong or right really.
I will be looking for books everywhere I go. Second hand stores, book stores, etc.

I'm actually quite grateful to the OP for starting this thread. I'm really enjoying this discussion, even though it's frustrating. We are trying to find answers...together.
I feel like I'm on a mission now...and this Momma Bear needs more coffee!!

And the quest for answers continues.
I remembered something else this morning.

I remember as a child it said Berenstein.

I also remember in the 90s when I began teaching lower grade levels,I had those books in my classroom, even had to include them in my annual planning, and they said Berenstein. ( I only used those books for one year, after that our school ordered Reading Street)

Been teaching using Oxford or Harcourt ever since, but haven't picked up a Berenstein book since that school year in the 90s.

About 2-3 weeks ago I was downloading some of their stories from youtube, and they said Berenstain. I chalked it up to a spelling mistake on their part.

It seems whatever changed, changed in the 90s.

Hey Rainbow!!

Okay, so what happened in the 90's?
I am not awake enough yet to start searching.
Were there breakthroughs in physics? Was something invented?
Cern? Hadron? (I dunno, that's why I'm asking).

Is that when John Titor came back...or left?

I'm almost ready to assume the fetal position and suck my thumb.

Hi Jacygirl,

And I just got home from work. lol

To list all the important/strange things that happened in the 90s could take a couple of pages and hours, which I don't have the stamina for right now.

Oh, what the hey, let's start with science.

The 1990s were a time of globalization which science and technology saw notable growth. The decade brought some of the greatest scientific findings and technological inventions in human history.

Today, when we have advanced computers, highly efficient machines, mobile phones, and satellite mapping, the scope of technological advancement has only increased. Every day a new mobile device, a better and faster computer, or a smarter car engine is developed by engineers (and announced by marketing). The scope of improvement and growth remains exponential.

What were the major technology developments of the 1990s? Let’s browse through the timeline.

Source: www.brighthub.com...

from the website science and technology timeline of the 90s:
-world wide web
-revival of electric cars
-human genome project
-Hubble space telescope
1991:
-webcam
-memory card
1992:
-plasma display screen
1993:
-ultraviolet Water Purifier
-Pentium Processor
-Glenn Anderson Transitway
-IBM Simon, the first smartphone
1995:
-Java Programming Language
-VOIP (PC-to-phone)
-Boeing 777, a twin-engine airplane, became the first ever plane to be designed using CAD and CAM.
-Kodak digital camera and DVDs also came into existence.
-Amazon and eBay
-Trans Pacific Cable 5 Network (TPC-5CN) was looped across the Pacific Ocean
1996:
-Universal Serial Bus
-Dolly, the first cloned sheep, was born.
1997:
-world's first robotic vacuum cleaner
-In 1997 and 1998 respectively, Bell Labs introduced the smallest practical transistor and the optical router.
1998:
-Google
-iMac
-Akashi Kaikyo Bridge
1999:
-Blackberry
-Bluetooth 1.0

So, yes the 90s were very productive. These were the things they invented/introduced.
Now imagine all the things they never introduced...
Makes one wonder.

I looked at the science/technology part, because I felt we should be looking there for clues in my opinion.
I could be wrong, who knows.
It could also be that we should look into space/space exploration discoveries in that era.

Aww geez, thank you for the list! (If you just got home from work, you should have told me not to be so lazy, and search it out myself, lol).

I must admit, for a while I've had a theory that the internet is replacing all our other sources of information, and everyone is now 'googling' what they want to know. History can be re-written on the internet....BUT...that doesn't explain how old books have a different spelling now.
I'm sure that science and technology have advanced far beyond a level that we are allowed to know.

In my own searching, I found a Mike BerenSTEIN who was educated in Russia...and is a cartoon graphics professional who has worked on some mainstream projects. It is not the same picture of the Mike BerenSTAIN who is supposed to be the Bear books authors' son.

I find myself going in circles, to the point that I'm not even sure what's relevant.

I know, we could overlook something because it doesn't seem important to us, and again all those inventions we don't know about like you also mentioned.

I had the major part of my introduction to the bears when my daughter was little, she was born in 99. I remember it as berenstein then, maybe 03 to 04 ish? Not sure on the year I last saw it didn't really pay attention.

I asked her the other day how she remembers it spelled she said stein without hesitation. I said "are you sure??" Of course she looked at me like I was nuts. I told her to google them and she was freaked out lol.

She then asked a couple friends and they were of the stein persuasion as well. In fact I have yet to ask anyone and have them reply "stain".

Tldr.. I have at least three instances of stein in early 2000's

Feeling guilty for my laziness, I just did a search for 'glitches in the matrix'.
Unreal!!

SO many people have strange stories....things that they cannot explain logically (or scientifically).

As I'm sitting here, in my head I keep thinking of a line from Game of Thrones..."You know nothing Jon Snow."

Another strange thing I have noticed: I'm trying different searches, and just typed into google "Berenstein Bears changed to Berenstain Bears". A lot of message board discussions (including a facebook discussion) appear, however when I click on the link....I'm forwarded to a page that says the page is either 'not available' or does not exist.

Why? Is our discussion here going to disappear too?

I still think we've found something. Just don't know what.

I'm conducting a survey of my coworkers, and so far it's 3 steins, 0 stains, and 2 who can't spell/remember. One is adamant it's stein, and says he just picked up a bunch of books that his grandson had left out, just a few days ago, and he's positive they said stein. I asked for a pic if so, and told him he'd be the only person with proof.

I'll update the survey later.

I am replying before I read the rest of the thread, so pardon if I repeat something already said.

Ya know Kanga, I was thinking along the same lines. I have never had a near death experience. I have had times where I should have died, but I would emerge mostly unscathed.

Now for the "crazy" part in my mind that keeps screaming at me. In 2001 I had a very (my first and only) vivid dream. In this dream, I died. I mean I actually died. I saw an incoming nuke, heard the blast, saw the shockwave coming, felt broken window shards hit my skin, saw my family burned, I died. I hit the bed so hard I woke my husband up. Needless to say I didn't sleep for nights after that.

I can still remember almost every small detail of that dream. It always felt like there was just something more to it....

Doodle...how frightening! And I thought you couldn't 'die' in a dream...?

I just found an essay about the BerenSTEINs....yeah, I know...the writer could have spelled it wrong, however...here is the link if anyone is interested.

www.echeat.com...

I also checked kijiji Ontario (it's like Craigslist)...searched for Berenstein Bears....all the ads that people placed had the STEIN spelling...but the images of the books for sale all showed the STAIN spelling.
It looks like we steiners are just spelling it wrong. That's how it looks, I know.

And yet I continue to believe there is much more to it than wrong spelling.

I'm not sure why, it just struck me as 'strange' that in 2001 George Bush is sworn in, and Wikipedia launches.

Here is one more site, before I go and soak in some hot water.
This is a 'summer reading' list for the 'Greater Baton Rouge Hope Academy'...whom I would presume to be careful about proper spelling. There is a very long list of mandatory reading, and throughout the list are BerenSTEIN Bears books written by Jan and Stan BerenSTEIN.

I have to take a break from this, or I just won't get anything done.
Will definitely be checking back later.
