I really don't know what to say except how? How could they? $500 and not even feed the baby? Time to reflect , 15 years minimum IMHO.

Infant Dies During Parents' Crack Binge

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- A month-old baby died while his parents were on a three-day crack coc aine binge that began after Thanksgiving dinner, police said Tuesday.

The cause of death was not immediately clear. Sonia Thomas, 39, and Neal Anthony Bryan, 46, have been charged with child neglect. More charges could be filed after autopsy results are available, police spokesman Jeff Kelly said.

Bryan told police he awoke to find that his son, whose name was not released, was on the bed next to him, not wearing a diaper and not breathing, according to a police report.

Thomas told investigators the baby was blue and she ran to the kitchen and sprinkled water on him in an attempt to "get him back." He was pronounced dead at a hospital after the couple called 911.

Thomas said she could not remember when she had last fed the baby because "she was messed up on crack" and tired, the report said. It said the couple admitted smoking about $500 worth of crack coc aine over three days.

Thomas was being held without bail. Bryan was held on $10,000 bail. Information on whether they had retained attorneys was not immediately available Tuesday.

I sure as hell hope not, this is a despicable crime, but the PC crowd will cry for mercy and not that mercy shouldn't be granted if they want to clean up, but the crime was done and the price must be paid.

It reminds me of a scene from the Movie "Trainspotting"...
Except the drug was Heroin, in that case.

It's hard to understand, to grasp, the fact that the child was just Forgotten.
Or was it that the sense of time was lost? I dunno...

I think the death penalty would not be too severe, should the parents behavior be found to be contributory to the death of the child, which I'm sure will be the case. I don't know how stupid she must be to admit to the police that she was too strung out to care for the child, unless the evidence of such was too profound to deny.

Society plays softball with those who abuse and neglect their children, opting to play a year-long gotcha game over custody rights before terminating parental rights, instead of giving these people hard time right off the bat. A lot of parents who have their kids taken into custody are, despite their pro forma protests, are really glad to be rid of the nuisance of child-rearing and, despite all the "reasonable efforts" expended on the public dime, will fail to alleviate the conditions that brought their progeny into custody.

And there's no excuse for neglecting a child, none at all.
These people should be put away for a long time.

Imo anyone charged with use of crack, heroin cocain or any other hard drug, who have babies or children, should have the kids immediatly removed from their custody, untill such time as they are deemed clean and fit parents. No ifs or buts about it. Children should always come first.
However hard drug users are not rehabilitated/dried out permantly in jail, rather this institution increases the use of these drugs by sheer availability and, users should be remanded to a non jail, but secure facility, specialising in treatment of drug abuse, for however long it takes.

Those who's lives rely on hard drugs (im not refering to the occasional joint out back at 3 am) are not fit parents and never will be. Punishment alone will not make them so either. The law should be based on tangible corrective action, not mere incarceration(out of sight out of mind).

This sad story should remind us all who are parents, what a great priveledge it is to have a child/ren, lets all be more aware of what our kids are exposed to, and our responsibilty to them.

I would agree with this plan but the left would never agree, they want rights for the criminals not the victims, even if they are children.

2 people? 3 days? And $500 worth of crack?

I could believe 2 people and 3 hours. Maybe. Or 1 person and 1 day. But then I'm assuming they had it all at once. Maybe there were 50 $10 tricks involved. Or robberies, or something. No cop should buy this story though. Right, you had coc aine in the house for three days and just didn't hear the crying baby with your super sensitive coked up hearing.

It's not at all like they'd "forget" they had a baby crying while on crack. If anything they were hyper aware and annoyed out of their minds. Probably drove them insane.

They killed it. Probably a looooooooooong time before reporting it. Probably before they even got the crack. Probably WHY they went on a binge. Or they were never in the house at all, doing a bigger crime like I said and just found the baby later.

There's alot of "cover story" in this one, and people will probably buy it out of ignorance and prejudice about smoking coc aine. Thinking it made them monsters. They were monsters before they ever hit the pipe though.

Thats a horrible possibility Rant, however im sure the coroner can establish the time of, and cause of death and if they are deliberatly responsible the truth will come out, in which case i hope justice is served.

My father was a screw for ten years. His explanation for criminals was simple: they're too dumb not to get caught. Some of his stories make my sides hurt, what's worse is they're true.

Can't agree with you (surprise surprise) on the death penalty. That's the easy way out. Give them life, make them suffer through the here and now, for a good lot of here and now.

Rant I think you are on to something here, it is like saying someone spazzed out on pot and went on a killing spree......it is just not likely .

Why do you think we have frivolous lawsuits?

I know, purely rhetorical questions, but the whole thing is just frustrating. Heh--I think I'm being irresponsible if I leave my child with a relative to go do something! I prefer to take him with me. My cousins had no problem leaving their kids for my aunt to practically raise, on the other hand....

There's some problems I've had with life sentences...
1. I don't want to pay for them when death is cheaper.
2. they will be let out on parole some 20 years from now...because it's a life sentence and not the death penalty (though a lot of Death Penalties die of old age too....)
