Guns are not violent and are not the problem, mental illness is.

Unfortunately we can't seem to regulate, or tax it, and as a society we put little emphasis on understanding it.

I think its always been (since the dawn of privately owned firearms by the masses) as many gun accidents and crimes committed we simply hear about more of it.

What might be a famous shoot out in 1960 in one town, two towns over never heard of it etc.

tweets, internet, 24/7 news even facebook. Crime sells and people like the controversy to argue about at the lunch table.

I am by no means " the bottom rung". I am a white male, and I probally own more firearms than you can carry in two trips back & fourth to your car. Call me what you want. I am a collector and appreciate fine firearms and older firearms from yesteryear. Does that alone dump me off into the "nut crowd" or the "bottom rung dwellers" NO it does not.

Take away the firearms & the unstable will turn to knives, take away the knives the unstable will turn to clubs & ball bats, take away the clubs & ball bats...the ubstable will use a rock. We gonna take all the rocks away as well? The firearm is a tool in the hand of any who weild it. So is a knife, a club, a rock. Just no difference .

Yes and no. It's kind of a double edged sword. Evil people get punished, but we suffer the efx; after more laws are passed; making us more "evil", by default. People that don't obey are the "evil ones", in this system.

Counted in the numbers of homicides is justifiable homicides.

These justifiable homicides are cops shooting criminals AND THE PUBLIC SHOOTING CRIMINALS in self defense.

These account for up to 1/3 of homicides.

plus of the number of homicides only about 67% WERE WITH A FIREARM. the rest were with other weapons.

The numbers of justifiable homicides in some states show there gun laws are working.

States like Florida ,Texas and Arizona have had big drops in crime since they changed there gun laws.

then there is excusable homicides.
If someone ran up to you on the street, knocked you to the

Gun violence is not an epidemic...mental issues are! I've said it a thousand times and everyone seems to ignore this fact that you are talking about a SYMPTOM of a PROBLEM. Attempting to cure the SYMPTOM does nothing. Curing the PROBLEM fixes it, and the SYMPTOMS. The PROBLEM is mental issues, ignorant handling and prescribing of mind altering drugs and a complete lack of any government body to wish to solve anything. Because if you solve something...you loose one of the things you are needed for.

Have you seen the commercials? "May cause suicidal thoughts or actions". And the drug cures nothing, but attacks the symptoms of what...a pimple, a rash? Really? It seems that every drug has the same warnings anymore which means it is messing with your mind and how your brain functions.

So...just a thought. When you prescribe a drug that messes with someone's mind, maybe a little observation is required? Maybe a weekly question and answer session to see if it is affecting the person in a bad way? You know...actual doctoring?

Gun violence isn't an epidemic.

The US has a firearm homicide rate comparable to that of the third world. However, most of the violence happens somewhere else, to other people's kids, to kids from other races, bad kids, kids that deserve it.

So, like the Brits in Northern Ireland in the 1970s, you have "an acceptable level of violence" that can be compartmentalised and explained away.

Guns are convenient. I would look much further than guns however. To Big Pharmacy.

These are just a Small portion of sites, each with dozens and tens of dozens of shooters and the drugs they were taking.... kind of hard to dismiss..

MSN is now trying to claim there have been 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook even though the number was debunked, only CNN corrected the number to 15. ABC/NBC have continued to push the stat even after they have been called out on it and think progress got upset about CNN correcting their mistake. Now that Every Town/Mom Demand Action For Gun Sense have nanny Bloomberg backing them they are getting people in the MSN to lie for the "greater good". The leaders of Mom's Demand Action have admitted to having armed guards every where they go when promoting gun control, they don't think it's hypocritical.

Found some more interesting facts and numbers as to how Americans view the second amendment. It seems pretty cut and dry:

While there are often wide partisan differences of opinion on gun-related issues, even 54% of Democrats agree with 75% of Republicans and 68% of those not affiliated with either major party that the right to own a gun is to ensure such freedom.
