War Has Destroyed Iraq's Health System: Report.

War in Iraq has caused a public health disaster that has left the country's medical system in tatters and increased the risk of disease and death, according to a report by Britain-based charity Medact.

Medact, which examines the impact of war on health, says cases of vaccine-preventable diseases are rising, and relief and reconstruction work had been mismanaged.

"The health of the Iraqi people has deteriorated since the 2003 invasion," Gill Reeve, the deputy director of Medact, said.

"Immediate action is needed to halt this health disaster."

This is a tragic situation, but i can't see Medact's claims of mis-management being totally valid due
to the ongoing insurgency and violence. Iraq is simply too dangerous for relief and reconstruction workers. This means in my opinion, the insurgents are winning in regard to this major problem.

Dig a little deeper. Iraq's water supply was near destroyed by our forces during the Persian Gulf War. It was a (not so open) stated, long-term aim. I studied this before the Iraq invasion. Those responsible should be charged with war crimes.

ECK, I know that, one estimate (from memory) was 500,000 children died as a result of the descruction of the Iraqi water treatment plants and means of supply by allied forces in
gulf war 1. In fact the water supply was one of the first infrastructure to be destroyed.

You have a good point. Saddam probably only repaired the Sunni areas and left the rest to
rot. Just like he drained the marshes in the Shia' south.

Actually is a few post and links on ATS that show the warnings the Red Crescent has given the US about the humanitarian crisis in Iraq.

It also talks about the children been the ones to be affected the most.

But occurs most people care less is so many hate threads against the middle east is just pitiful, some advocated for the death of all in the middle east.
