Six Americans were aboard a cargo plane that went missing in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan. On board were three crew members and six soldiers. It is unclear if the plane tried to attempt an emergency landing in the tough terrain. The plane was heading to an undisclosed location from the main American base at Bagram. KABUL, Afghanistan Nov 30, 2004 U.S. military planes and troops were scouring Afghanistan's daunting Hindu Kush mountains Tuesday for six Americans who were aboard an aircraft that went missing over the weekend.

It was unclear if the cargo plane had managed an emergency landing despite the tough terrain. Efforts to locate the aircraft, which carried three crew members and three soldiers, were hampered by heavy snow.

Helicopters are continuing to search a nearby area, Baba range which rises to over 16,000 feet. Details of the rescue operations are not being released because it could put other ground troops at risk. The Casa 112 was contracted to the US Airforce and was operated by Florida-based Presidential Airways. They are not saying if the plane crashed or not, they say they don't want to be premature and say that it did crash. They are trying to be optimistic.
