Why is it that some of you question the validity of the Bible, when some of you believe most of the information in the history books, or what "experts" say, or even what the teachers/professors say?
A lot of history was rewritten.

I'm sure you all already know that Christians believe the Bible through faith. Why do you believe what is written in history?

Also, some people may say that Christians, blindly, believe certain things, but why is it that some of you, blindly, trust your health care professionals to prescribe something for your "health". Also, did any of you ever question what dental fillings are made of? It may seem off subject, but many people trust, or blindly follow what is the "norm", or what is expected. The media has control of the minds of a lot of people without their knowing it. In all honesty, some doctors don't know what they are doing, but a lot of people don't seem to know this. Not to mention that dental fillings are made up of soft metals, including Mercury, which slowly affects the mind, but people trust the dentist.

What is it that makes us trust?

I'm interested in hearing from the intelligent members of this website because from what I see, there are a lot of insightful, intelligent people who can give me more insight.

In my opinion, I think that we trust until we are given a reason not to trust. It also may be a learned behavior.

i hope i can be one of those intelligent fellow in this forum

anywho, you mentioned two things in which we place our trust on, people and history. alright, the marjority of the history are not really trustworthy. even alot of things we see as absolute truth in the history books are constantly rewritten due to recent discovery. as for people, well..thats a tough one. i guess the only answer for that is we trust someone for the sake of trusting

This should clearly be in the "conspiracys" forum.

alot of the things we read about in history have multiple refererences to them, thus being more reliable than a single book written 2000 years ago. I dont accept what history says and i always question what i'm taught and ask for evidence.

As for trusting my doctor. I dont. I wont take medication unless i feel realy really sick and even then only after a few different opinions. Also the doc i do see i have been seeing for 11 years and he has never done me wrong (i'm still wary though), and made me feel better many a time.

I am yet to see any evidence or references that back the bible up, and also i am yet to see anything 'god' has done for me that can be solely placed on him alone and not on a natural phenomena... in fact i am not religious and have lived a much better and more comfortablel ife than many religious people i know who are constantly in doubt of their actions and in depression because of the church and their teachings

i know this was for non christians, but i was one of those once, so does that count? hummmmm truts...the blackness that surounds your every move when you hit rock bottom...or the hollow emptyness that rings in your ears when your on the top of it all....when all of that gets smashed to pieces by a super rock and roll savior(jesus) it teaches you to trust!!!! one day at a time...like mother and child...children come into this world with flinch instincts so we hold them close, to let them know, our smell our embrace...the next time they are afraid they know where to turn...when we seek we learn when we learn we return...hopefully

Everyone please read, I summed everything up in one post.

2009, your answer was perfect. You gave your honest opinion, showing that you too don't know why we trust people(or whatever it is we trust). I think we do trust for the sake of it, or because sometimes we have no choice.

To Everyone: Thanks for all your answers and opinions. I can see that there is a wide scope of perception among all of you, which I was looking for. Now that I see that some trust, and some don't, what causes us/you to trust? Whatever, or whoever you trust in, why do you? When I was younger, I used to trust my teachers, but didn't fully trust them after I matured because I was made aware of how some were unfair to certain students.
A broader view of the world changed my perceptions.

"people i know who are constantly in doubt of their actions and in depression because of the church and their teachings"

specialasianx, yes, you are right with that point. Many people are only religious. Christianity is based on a relationship with Christ. In my case, I am a very optimistic person because of my relationship with the Lord, not religion. The religious part reminds me of who I am becoming. God knows that humans have a hard time turning from certain habits, and He helps us when we allow Him to. But forcing oneself to be perfect is not the answer. He can see our hearts, anyway, so it's not like we can fool Him and put on a show. Some religious people believe that they must be stiff and watch their every move, but that is hard to do. By doing this, depression can come on. When one has to constantly fight what they are, instead of growing in His Grace, one can get depressed.
On the other hand, I see a lot of nonChristians who are depressed with life and feel that they have nothing to live for. Everyone who is depressed has a different reason. Some are too hard on themselves, some don't see the point in life, some have gone through terrible times, some have a negative disposition, and some causes are unknown. Also, mood, diet, etc.. affects chemical imbalances resulting in depression.

"What has god done for you?????????"
ninki, Were you asking me?

Thats right ClassyGirl, I'm not saying my luck in life is directly related to my lack of faith. But I dont see that Religious people live any better than non-religious people... theo nly difference i see is religious people place alot of faith in something they cannot pove exsists, where as non-religious people choose to place their faith in themselves, whomk they know for a fact exsists.

I think people question the validity of the bible because they make a lot of extraordinary claims, and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. There is no evidence for any of the claims, a 6,000 year old earth has been falsified, a worldwide flood has been falsified, we have a better theory for our origins, or atleast, a theory we can test, and work with. If Christianity wasnt a major religion with enornmous influece in the western world (as well as others), then obviously no one would care to question its validity, but the morals and traditions are being pushed onto people who dont believe in it I think unsettles quite a few. Also the fact that according to the Bible, we will go to Hell for eternity with no chance of redemption just for not believing. I think people should question its validity. As for people not questioning everyday things, I couldnt tell you why. Mabye they dont think they will burn forever if they dont know every detail about WW2, its irrelevant to their lives. As for doctors, I think people trust doctors too much. I cant really answer that, because I dont question history and whenever I go to the doctor I always read up on what im getting checked out. Because, sadly, a lot of the time some doctors are clueless.

ok for CLASSYGIRL....good answer..no i was not asking you" what has god done for you ???"...but you can answer if you want to....
the question went to SPECIALASIANX...they posted that they could not think of 1 thing god had done for them.....now on to ALECEIFFEL...could you please post where you get your information from, prooving that the flood, and the age of the earth have been falsified...because i beg to differ...i think that is what you have been tought to believe.....since neither evolution nor creation can be prooved ...that makes them both a faith....their is also very strong evidence in a worldwide flood...we have laws like the laws of entrophy check it out and see if your theory stands up to those laws...i thik you might be sitting on a frozen plannet if your theory were correct...with your time table our sun woul be burnt out...check out also the acumulation of moon dust hummmmmm where is it all? do some research and realize both are faith........

Oh, ok, Ninki.

Well, God has delivered me from being cold-hearted. He aroused my passions, and showed me that intelligence and creativity are equally important( I used to think that emotions, and creativity were worthless). I was a real grump, LOL. He helped me to forgive those who have wronged me, and helped me to forgive myself. He healed me many times, and also kept me strong. He's guiding my path so that I know who I truly am. He has shown me my true self, a bold Child of God. He ministers to me, daily, so that I may be able to minister to those whom God guides in my path. He has given me a great intensity for life, and for people. I am more compassionate so that I can try to learn how others feel by placing myself in their position. I am becoming a better person. I am liking what I see, everyday. Of course I still make mistakes ( a bunch at that), but I learn from them, and I am learning not to look down upon myself as I am learning not to look down on others. I have learned to accept myself, my strengths and my weaknesses. To accept a weakness allows a Christian to rely on God for that strength, and He gives it! The Lord has a plan for my life, and He is bringing it into completion!!!!!

There are many more, but these are a few. Oh yeah, I am still alive!!!

God bless you, Ninki!

Remember, watch and pray, for the time is at hand. Those who watch and pray will be worthy to escape the Tribulation that is to come. Look to the heavens and know that redemption is near, for the sky will show signs of Christ's coming. Please read Luke 21 and Revelation. You should check out www.thercg.org...
Prepare yourself for the Bridegroom. These things are only understood by His people.

How do you know that the evidence is true? Who is presenting the evidence?

Oh yeah, people don't go to hell for not knowing everything about the Bible; I am saying this because I felt that this was what you were implying. We don't go to Heaven through the thorough knowledge of the Bible, but by receiving Christ. The Bible speaks of this. The Pharisees had extensive religious knowlegde, yet were considered Children of the Devil. This is easy to understand because there are a lot of people who don't accept the Son, and who have great knowledge of His Word. These people will try to put people under their control. That is why it is crucial to know the Lord for yourself, by reading His Word. These types of people use knowledge to entrap people. I know this because I am a Christian and could tell if someone is claiming to be one to have power over people. Also, you should read the New Testament, if you haven't already, and observe how Jesus lived. He never forced people to believe. He said, "Follow Me." If the person had faith to trust Him, they followed. If the person said that they have to do something else first, or they are uncertain, He left the person behind. People who force religion aren't doing what God wants.

SpecialAsianX,

Your perception is right, again!!! Yes, the Bible states that the rain falls on the just as well as the unjust, and the sun shines on both, alike. Basically, you have confirmed what the Bible states about bad and good happening to everyone, Christian or not. BUT, good results in the end for His Children. That's the hope we have.

The mind is so cunning that it can hide in the garments of its very opposite. From indulgence it can become asceticism, from being a materialist it can become a spiritualist, from being worldly it can become otherworldly, but mind is mind;..whether you are for or against the world you remain encaged in the mind. For or against, both are parts of the mind.
When mind disappears, mind disappears in a choicsless awareness. When you stop choosing, when you are neither for nor against,..that is stopping in the middle.

One choice leads to the left, one extreme; another choice leads to the right, the other extreme. If you don't choose, you arre exactly in the middle. That is Relaxation,it's rest..You become choiceless consciousness, intelligencs arises which has been lying dee, dorment in your being. You become a light unto yourself....

I wont even bother posting links, if you actually care then google it. The worldwide flood theory was falsified in the 1800s, by Christian men who used basic geology to study the earths layers and soil. The evidence that the earth is over 6000 years old is so overwhelming and obvious that I wont even bother. Google it. Plenty of Christians believe in evolution and a old universe, it doesnt damage their faith one bit.

I wasnt implying that people go to hell for not knowing everything in the Bible, I was saying that they go to hell for not believing in the Bible or that Jesus is the son of God sent to earth to save mankind through his salvation. I've read the old and new testament, the old testament is cruel and makes hitler look like a chump. I've read the new testament, but I enjoy the Gnostic gospels that were not included in the bible because they are more historically accurate and I feel they portray Jesus as he actually was; a mortal man, who wasnt perfect, but a good man, with some good teachings.

I think that a God who sends people to hell for not believing a 2000 year old book deserves no worship at all. But that isnt the point, even if the bible appealed to me more, I still wouldnt believe, because its just another religion among the thousands that all try to describe the samething.

I was a Christian my whole life up until a year ago. I have read the Bible. Like I said before, it doesnt matter if it appeals to me or not, its just another religion, nothing is special about it and Jesus didnt teach anything that hadnt been taught before. Why dont you believe in Hinduism? Bhuddism? Islam? Judaism? Apollo? Zeus? I dont believe in a personal relationship with Jesus for the same reason you dont believe in all the religions/Gods I stated above; because its just another religion made up by men in different cultures.

Alec Eiffel- i am sorry to hear that the religious backround you came from is a turn off to you ...but i assure you it is not christ who was found to be false...it was the religious people...i dont believe in hinduism, buddhism.or any other so called religoion because ...i like you fell away from a religious upbringing and sought after the truth ....the only truth i find is in jesus christ not in some building not in some statue ....not by repetitous babbling...but with a real creator god who has pulled me out of the darkest life into his glorious light....i did not believe in jesus when i fell away...but then i started to ask questions...so many questions that i had to go to school to take a religion class.....they did not have the answers so i thought well if jesus is real why not just ask him and if he is who he says he is then he will answer....and he did ...and that is how i know...i know that i know that i know that he is who he said he is...for me for you...and like i said before screw all the religious crap....go for the core ...go to jesus himself......this is a terrible run on paragraph ...sorry but i gotta run...look forward to more talk with you

quote from ninki

since neither evolution nor creation can be prooved

not today, but one day creation might be proved, evolution might be proved, you cant say for sure that they cant be. If our civilisation survives 1billion years. can u tell me that evolution nor creation can be proved?

quote from Classygirl

"There is no evidence for any of the claims, a 6,000 year old earth has been falsified, a worldwide flood has been falsified"

How do you know that the evidence is true? Who is presenting the evidence?

even if there was a great flood, it hasnt been within 6,000 years, so either way you disprove the flood, or you disprove the age of the earth, creationism claims.

and by the way, the Egyption culture is older than 6,000 years old. The Sumerians that lived in modern day Iraq is approx 12,000 years old
