I think it goes beyond that.

There are a percentage (high) of people who feel the world happens TO them.
Not that THEY control their destiny.
Someone , usually the government, prevents them from achieving their potential.
To them someone else is pulling the strings behind closed doors.
Simple explations are never enough.

They crashed their car.
The brakes must have been faulty.

WHen it comes to 911 it can't be as simple as plane crash/fires.
It must be something much more complex.
But they are never able to explain how the man behind the curtain can pull off the event without leaving a trace of tangable proof.
Somehow the same people thought Hussain had WMDs.

Since McCarthy couldn't even get his own figures straight half the time I doubt the Soviet archives verified every one of his "communists".

There are tons of evidence against the official 9/11 story but it seems like for some reason people do not want to recognize them,and even if they do,there is not much they can do about it...Admitting that the US government has been involved or at least allowed such a massive scale of mass murder in their own soil is a very difficult thing to do,specially for Americans...History will tell wonders about this incident,along with a lot of other similar plots pulled by the elites during the last century.

Or is it because the interior of the structure was already collapsing and the failure and collapse we see is just a hollow shell of the exterior, due to the ConEd vault at the base acting as a large opening as well as the transfer trusses failing? That could very well explain the short duration of "free-fall" acceleration.

Did you forget the structure was collapsing internally for a few seconds prior to the collapse we see?

Reading comprehension is key here folks. He first described the 2nd plane impact. Later on he describes the impact of the South Tower on WTC3 (Marriott). This is how it looked after the first collapse:

As for LT. Patrick he describes how the Tower started to fall down. Im sure it did sound like an explosion if you were standing right under it. But it too does not prove any explosives. Plus all of these descriptions are just that: descriptions, of what they were seeing. How often does a building collapse like that? Not very. Best description is to explain it the best way you can. It "looked like" an explosion. Like how a tornado sound is described as a freight train.
You should know that explosive demolition charges are very very loud . And in every freaking demolition video I have ever seen and heard, you hear the very noisy detonations well before any movement of the building. It wold have been picked up on every camera and audio recording device within two miles. And yet, we have people standing under it and next to it, and the only sound we ever hear is a growing rumbling sound of the collapses. No sharp bang bang bangs. At all! Period!
