Figures, the most left leaning news agency in the country tries yet again to use its quasi science to push for the legalization of dope. No one grows this crap for tactile use now, no one will grow it in the future. The only reason this plant is grown is to get high. Yes i know hemp and marijuana are different, Hemp is high growing marijuanna is low growing but same plant.

hemp is high growing?
know?
you don't, no

a reply to: V22tech Kind of late, but. There is a farmer in Colorado, that has planted a hemp field. He reported that much of the crop is all ready spoken for, by commercial users.

Please get your information straight. The Declaration of Independence is printed on hemp paper, tree pulp paper would be faded and rapidly decaying by now. Hemp was a major crop during colonial times. So, important that the "drug" laws were suspended during World War II, to allow the production of hemp for the War Effort. One of Great Britain's greatest losses with the Colonies was access to old growth timber, turpentine, and hemp rope for the Royal Navy. Coming forward, Canada grows hemp and ships products to the U.S. Hemp is easily converted to paper, thread and cloth, twine, rope, and products similar to plastic, without the need of petroleum. It requires minimum care, little fertilizer, again a blow for the petroleum industry, and is easily harvested compared to other crops. Stop repeating the lies and half truths that sold us down the, rather up the river, to get drug laws that suited industries and the self righteous, prohibitionists still hiding in the Government in the 30's and 40's.

The Declaration of Independence was printed on Parchment, not Hemp. During WW2 the U.S. could no longer get rope from the Philippines (made from Abaca, which is a type of banana and was preferred over Hemp) and had to grow Hemp. Wood pulp is cheaper and easier to make into paper. Hemp is almost exclusively used for specialty papers. A blow to the Petroleum industry? Hardly, plants like Switchgrass and Sugarcane work better. Most of the lies and half truths are coming from the pro-hemp crowd. I think it should be legal to grow it, but I don't believe it is the wonder-plant everyone is claiming. If it is so amazing, why is so little grown worldwide?

Good lord! Any grower with a brain knows you got to kill any and every male plant. If the female gets a taste of pollen, there goes the THC. Might as well sell it as Hemp, you get a better price.
Remember, R. W. Hearst campaigned with his Newpaper Chain to make Hemp and MJ illegal. He own tens of thousands of acres of forest, and many pulp mills. Hemp paper was superior to newsprint, and he wanted all the business.
