Perhaps these structures were built along the ley lines, or energy fields
of the earth. Were they signaling devices for ufos, perhaps? Or could
they be used for time and space travel? Personally I think they were
merely for astronomical observation. By why all this obsessive interest
in the stars, then?

Good find! The stars have always interested humans since the beginning, just imagine yourself as a 'caveman' and wondering what those blinking lights in the sky are, now look at the present, humans are still obsessed with stars, however, as there are more things that sidetrack the minds of the majority, any special event in the sky will grab the attention of anyone. It's our nature to wonder. It's better to wonder about something unattainable then to wonder about something attainable. That's just my two cents though.

Terrific find fortean. From your link:

The research team said forest dwellers that originally came from Iran likely made these two objects. They lived in the Ryazan area during the Bronze Age 4,000 years ago.

Fragments of human bones and teeth also were found outside the circle's boundary. Ahmedov and his colleagues think they might have belonged to a tribal chief who was posthumously sanctified. Burial tombs also exist near Stonehenge.

Ahmedov explained that solar and lunar cults were related to a fertility cult and to the mythological link between life and death. The circular shape was thought to hold magical properties because it has no beginning or end and was regarded as a symbol of eternity.

Two completely unrelated societies, both who created their own Stonehenge and used them for similar purposes - really amazing. I hope they do a few follow-up stories on this as they are excavating the site.

Since the earth's pole switches around occasionally, you kind of need a place where a culture can re-align the equinoxes and solstices, and get a grip on when growing cycles are going to commence and end.

I think these artifacts are probably more survival-oriented than arcane.

But, that's just my opinion.

A changing of the magnetic poles has no affect on the equinoxes or anything like that. And big stone cirlces aren't going to be very informative as to when a magnetic pole switch occurs. Besides, I don't think that these magnetic pole switches have occured much in human history, unless one includes 'pre-humans'.

Maybe scientists will finally consider that ancient man wasnt as dumb as they thought

That's a very interesting link. Good Job.

Could the two monuments be built out of more than a coincidence?

What scientists have been saying that ancient man was 'dumb'? Scientists are the ones saying ancient man built these things.

It is an interesting find, and I believe, its no coincidence the two monuments have similar features and importance to the people who built them. Perfect example is the piramids, piramids can be found around the world. I wouldn't be surprised if more of these structures are found thoughout the world. But, will the secretes of these monuments be discovered?

There hasnt been a picture yet, but its not really that surprising a find, pagans everywhere were interested in the stars, so it would make sense to build monuments to act as observatories.

It's worth emphasising that - according to the report - what has actually been found are post holes. Not a megalithic stone circle. Probably Woodhenge would have made a better - though lesser known - comparison.

In a world where there is no writing, no watches, no calendars, how do you know, for example, how long it is until the winter solstice and the days begin to lengthen again? By observing the stars and the moon....

This is exactly what I was thinking. There are no pictures because there is nothing to see.

Ahmedov said he and his team found ground holes indicating a monument with a 22.97-feet diameter circle consisting of 1.6-foot thick wooden poles spaced at equal distances from each other. Inside the circle is a large rectangular hole with evidence that four posts once stood in that spot.

Heh, a 23 foot diameter circle ain't exactly Stonehenge, folks.

Furthermore, putting logs in a circular formation, potentially framing common celestial events ain't rocket surgery.

This is an example that the Aryan "myth" may not be a myth.
