Seems like a valid question. Lacking specifics, maybe the discussion should be gender-neutral.

Investigators have been really careful not to say anything but shooter/suspect etc... They have given no details as to who or whom they may be looking for, and nothing has been inferred as to a specific gender in any way. It was a purely speculation discussed in the thread (I'm a guilty party).

But yes there is no reason to rule out the possibility that it may be a female. Highly unlikely, but still a possibility.
