Search equipment has detected two new signals that might be from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, Australian authorities said Wednesday.
The two signals, both picked up Tuesday, yielded more than 12 minutes in transmissions, retired Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston told reporters at a briefing in Perth.
It comes from a man-made device, and it's consistent with the locator on a black box. But we've got to lay eyes on it.

I think the Australian Authorities here should just stop talking until they actually find something, that will give us solid proof the plane went down in the ocean, we are still going to be left wondering even if nothing comes of this which i really hope it does, them poor families still getting no closure or solid info on what happened.. This would just be like another bit of false hope too them.....
Probably sounds silly me saying that but really there's been so many 'leads' but nothing solid at all.
That's vital because the jet's "pingers" are already past the expected 30-day life of their batteries.

Twelve minutes of transmission is alot longer than a lone ping.
Also since they are saying it is consistant with a black box ping, does this rule out other "pinging possibilities"?
The signals, picked up twice—on Tuesday afternoon and late Tuesday, local time—were held for five and seven minutes, respectively: much shorter than an initial two hour transmission on Saturday.

Houston said indications were that the ocean floor in the vicinity of the Ocean Shield is very silty; silt absorbs sound, probably hindering the signal detection, search officials said.

I am on my phone and it is rally slow right now so I am having a hard time looking up info. I am just curious of the siltation(if that is a word) build up over the few days, to a month ago when the plane went down.

Ok so I haven't been keeping up with all the information on this flight but I thought I did know one thing. That one thing was the black box was turned "OFF". Am I wrong?

Yes. The flight data recorder doesn't have an "OFF" and the beacons turn on when it's immersed or on impact or both.

Transponders can be turned off and this one was turned off or went off.......
the black box can not be turned off, it only records the last 30 mins of what happened on the flight. The Flight Data Recorder records what happened on the plane through it's flight.

I guess disabled would be a better word then off. In any case I thought they were disabled so how could they just turn back on their own.
