Actually their are UN sanctions or what not that make it illegal for NK to test fire missiles.
Neighbor B says I want a gun, but I am only using it in self defense.

The next move by NK could be to tell the world of another launch date, as they do, and secretly try to launch a manned mission into orbit, ie, put some poor sod on top of the missile. Great publicity at home, lovely looking ace pilot blown away by the Japanese dogs with the support of the evil US colonialists, that sort of thing.
Russia and China would rush in and send delegates to the state funeral. What a great PR exercise. Un crying at the funeral!
When the AEGIS Destroyer blows it out of the air, NK can legitimately try to blow the Destroyer out of the water for killing an Astronaut, or would that be an Unonaut.
I say try to, because while they have more than enough missiles to easily overwhelm the Destroyers self defense capabilities I am not sure they can actually hit it with any accuracy ...... unless ..... someone else lends them a hand.
It is all part of the two stages, two dog and pony shows. Move and counter move on the world stage.

Communist or not, China is becoming a civilized Nation. They don't want war because they are happy and their country is doing well economically, education, etc... To go to war would hurt that in that their economy could not support a war nor would the morale of its people.

Your self defense analogy would be fine except you are backed my the Military Industrial Complex of the West and you do not use this might for self defense, instead you invade and / or destabilize country after country.
I agree NK needs some correction, in a big way but:
If it was not for their military, NK would have been gobbled up decades ago. Their fears are justified, just ask Iraqi and Afghanistan.

Agreed. The fact that China has not gone in and removed Un in favor of their own puppets should tell you something of the size of the problem in attacking NK.
China would not care how many troops they lost, their male / female balance is way off, but NK would be a difficult nut to crack.

They are firing them towards an ocean / sea as almost everyone else does.
Incidentally, just in case someone takes it the wrong way, the 'get stuffed' was directed towards the hypocrisy of the west NOT at any poster!.
If SK was firing test missiles towards the sea of japan we would not be discussing this.

South into the East China sea. Why is that not a valid option?
I would imagine it is too small and likely too crowded for a safe test.
Thank you for the effort, I think you see the problem. For a long range test required for Ballistic missiles the only choice is to go over Japan and into the North Pacific Ocean, and quite honestly, they would be at such an altitude that they may be out of Japanese 'airspace' and into, I don't know what to call it, "space space."
This is a dog and pony show by the West, they do not want NK testing anything.
Now if everyone stops testing, I am fine with that! But that is a pipe dream. The West may test but Nk can't.

Personally I think the only reason north korea launches in the direction they do is because that is the direction of the US. For whatever reason, north korea thinks the tests will have an impact on US foreign policy towards north korea. The problem is north korea is a country out of time and their leadership does not understand anything outside of their own borders.

Isn't shooting down missile tests in international waters a little illegal?
Xcathdra
[
Not really... Its the same issue as Iran. At no point has the US ever stated either country is not entitled to a civilian nuclear energy program. The issue centers on nuclear weapons. Sine N. Korea pulled out of the NPT their actions are their own and all the world can do is try to engage them in conversation and try to get them to change their mind.
