Congressman: Members of Congress are underpaid

Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) said in an interview with Roll Call on Thursday that members of Congress are underpaid and can't afford to live "decently" in Washington.

“I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid,” Moran said. “I understand that it’s widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world.”

Awww I feel sooo sorry for you all. Welcome to America. You complaining that you don't make enough?

More greedy talk from greedy bastards in Washington. Would you expect anything less?

Members of Congress make $174,000 per year currently.

What a joke.

Let us all not forget that most of the members of congress are independently wealthy on their own anyway.

Poor people don't get elected to congress.

Which makes it even more laughable they are complaining about their wage.

Rich always want to be richer. "Greed is good".

It's time for the Yard Arm and some P.O.ed citizens to start taking action agains these clowns.

Did they ever think of ONCE saying.

"We are all taking a pay cut to stand symbolically with all the citizens who are suffering today"

Maybe Tar and Feathers need to make a come back.

First on my list is Senator Nelson for his sleeze deal on Obamacare.

Madame DeFarge time. Knit knit knit away.

Of course he's a democrat.

They should vote him out and allow him the chance to seek a more affordable job in the private sector.

It stuff like this that really makes me wish a giant meteor would strike the capitol while Congress the Senate, and the President were all there.

Wouldn't that be great?!

This goes beyond party lines. A friend on FB is going off on this and he's a staunch liberal. Party politics, just for the blind.

oh I'm sorry, but if the post was a republican complaining about how we don't' spend enough on the military I would have said "Of course he's a republican. You're right and it should go beyond party lines.

I'll wait and see how many democrats come out and go "Oh wow, he's right they are the board of directors for the largest economy in the world, they should be paid more and we should tax large corporations to pay for it because it's not fair they are paid more than our poor little congressmen"

Well said. I think it would be a good way to purge the current failure that is Washington D.C.

Under paid my snip.

Hell between VOTES, and theIR paychecks, and the cash they get for creating laws from lobbyists.

They are making a killing at ABSOLUTELY NOT DOING THEIR JOBS.

Well, if he believes he isn't getting paid enough, he is more than welcome to leave his job and go find other employment. What a tool. he is making what, close to 5 times the median wage of a person in the US?

Greed is a disease, classified as a psychological disorder or mental illness. It is clearly epidemic within the legislative and executive branches of our government. Sad but true, many greedy politicians desperately need professional medical care.

They could always go out on strike... or quit and get a new job. Then they could become lobbyist.

You know I've often wondered if they have to pay for things like normal Americans. Like a cup of coffee or breakfast? I see they get a furniture allowance. I never got that.

Remember the post office scandal? they were cashing checks that I think bounced or something at the PO there. I guess that is a perk that doesnt fit in when they calculate salary.

I'm sure he could get a second job at Walmart, MacDonalds or any of the minimum wage high street stores.

After all he's only working 113 days this year.

Geez and on top of the retirement they get, it seems they are just above the poverty line. What a freaking clown!! I'm military and got a sweet 1% pay raise this year and they are thinking about reducing retirement. They need to get this guy outta there and let him live like us real people for awhile.

I agree that they are totally underpaid. We send far more money to support terrorism overseas. I think they all deserve a raise once they make it to the gallows.
