Ah yes, Obama's infallible EPA.

I will give them this, they are living by the "ends justifies the means" doctrine to the letter.

Obama didn't make the EPA. Nixon did in 1970 after the Santa Barbara Oil Spill (1969). Concerns about humans and the environment were around for decades prior to that but the Santa Barbara spill was such a significant and visible event that it basically became that launching point for forming things like the EPA and also creating Earth Day. Earth Day also happens to be held on the same day as Nixon's visit to the spill. Just a few fun facts.

Oh yes, there is definitely politics and agendas (both hidden and overt) in politically appointed department and agency heads.

Here is one of the bigger threads with the 13 worst experiments governments have perpetrated on their own populations, but it still isn't the thread I found earlier.

Unfortunately, There is an even bigger list of atrocities than this one!

I do not believe for one second anyone would wiling consent to be experimented on like that.

The EPA is like a lot of government agencies - it take a lot of responsibility out of the hands of Congress and the states and hides it away in an unelected, unaccountable memory hole hidden by a maze of bureaucracy.

Now, I don't argue that there are things in the EPA mission that are worthy goals, but I do argue that the EPA actually does those rather than use them as a convenient shield to deflect from the true agenda.

Pfffftttt@!! Really?

Have you ever participated in a university study, or been around one? I've seen folks take pills, injections, be hypnotized, write 1000s of words, or watch hours of mindnumbing video just for pizza and a soda, or a free pair of sunglasses.

People will submit their bodies to just about anything if you just smile at them and give them a nice color handout.

I'd say that's true for most of the agencies and departments. It's a big old revolving door. I've actually had to interact with the EPA on several issues and, for the most part, those low level field grunts did actually try to do their jobs. Maybe not always well enough because there were a few things that they could've done to assure compliance was actually being met and they didn't. I can cite one specific instance where, if they accepted a photocopy of an altered invoice as evidence of compliance when it was actually doctored. All they would have had to have done was check with the original issuer of the invoice to check the alteration. They didn't. I don't know if that's due to back loaded cases or just pure laziness but it was kind of disappointing. To those particular agents' credit though, they did catch other and bigger issues.

I don't get the EPA. It's Diesel Exhaust. DO we need to expose more people to it deliberately to see what it does? Umm... hello? McEPA? (knock knock) Anyone home??

How about.. truckers?! ANY Long haul trucker before the last few years, with ANY number of years on the road has lived in...not been exposed to..LIVED IN..Diesel exhaust as a way of life, day in and day out. Week in and week out. Years on end.

Of course, it isn't pumping back into the cab. Not what I mean.. However, even truckers have to sleep (occasionally..lol) and being layed over in truck stops was also a way of life. Inside the truck stops are 100-300 other trucks, who, until very recently, ALL idled their engines near 24/7. How much exhaust do folks think we were exposed to, just walking into the truckstop to have a burger? Hundreds of trucks..all running..all in a 1/4-1/2 mile square.

The EPA COULD have looked at what is blatantly obvious and deduced real as well as overblown threats from that. That wouldn't support the "OH MY GOD! THE SKY IS FALLING!!" that they require though. If exhaust was *HALF* the danger they claim it is, to people who have no long term experience around it? There would be VERY VERY few living truckers today who could say they had 5 or 10 or 15 years continuous over the road time. We'd all be dead. To a person.

Looks to me like the Obama administration is trying to fix long-standing deficiencies in EPA policy.

The EPA followed applicable regulations when it exposed 81 human study subjects to concentrated airborne particles or diesel exhaust emissions in five EPA studies conducted during 2010 and 2011. However, we identified improvements that could be made to the EPA’s policies and guidance to enhance protection of study subjects.

......We recommend that the EPA establish procedures for obtaining HSRRO approval of significant study modifications, ensure consent forms consistently address pollutant risks, update its guidance to include the EPA’s clinical follow-up responsibilities, and address a number of other recommendations. The EPA concurred with all recommendations and provided planned corrective actions and completion dates that meet the intent of the recommendations. All recommendations have been resolved.
