The vote on the Ukraine-sponsored resolution was 100 countries in favour, 11 opposed and 58 abstentions.
The "yes" vote was higher than many diplomats had predicted, and the fact that more than half the 193 UN member states supported the resolution reflected widespread international opposition to Russia's military intervention and takeover of the strategic Black Sea region.
Unlike the more powerful Security Council, resolutions in the General Assembly cannot be vetoed but are not legally binding.

Whoopy doo big scary UN council. You can vote however you want, but you'll have to go to war with Russia to get Crimea back.
Bet no-one that just voted has the stomach to act upon this latest finding and do something about it.

War? Why would they need to go to war? They are wrecking Russias economy and it is just going to get worse and worse for Russia. What is telling is that Iran and China did chose to abstain instead of vote no in support of Russia. Of course nobody wants to support the idea that somebody can send troops into part of your country, make the locals vote with your troops in the street and then make that vote some how legal. If that was considered ok, everybody would start doing it.

So what exactly is the West opposing? Russia sending troops to defend Crimeans? How about the unwelcomed actions NATO and the US have been taking in other countries? It has been Russia's mistake not to make them a bigger issue when they happened. This is a lesson learnt.
You can't send troops into another country if the local people do not want you there. that would be called an invasion - something that the US and NATO are all too familiar with. It seems this is not exactly what is happening in Crimea.
If it is the process that these 100 countries are questioning, we still have not heard anyone of them proposing another round of local voting with tighter oversight. A the moment, it does look like the western nations will ensure the people of Crimes will never be able to speak for themselves, doesn't it? If condoned, this will send a dangerous message... Ye shall remain victims of more powerful bullies forever.
