yep "Mike Tyson " was born in the gutter worked his way out of poverty only then to become an ear biter....his vision was to beat he hoohah outa people and it worked for him....but it is unrealistic to believe that same opportunity exists for the masses as there simply is not enough coin for everyone to make it "rich" in this world

Nobodys talking about making it rich...far from it..

Im talking abouth the guys who get out of the welfare circle, get a job, get a life and get ahead with self detrmination, pride and respect..

A sucess story doesnt have to end in a million dollar mansion.

A sucess story is a guy who goes from a welfare cheque to having a job, a car, can pay his bills and feed his kids and at the end of the month maybe he has something left over for him..he shows his kids there is a better way to live, and they do the same. THAT is a sucess story..

Work ethic:

I am 45 year old, work 55-58 hours a week on my feet, make $13 / hr and support a family of 4 on my income alone. I am constantly putting one thing off to pay for another, qualify for zero assistance, and have stood by my disabled wife for 7+ years since her accident, even though she does not qualify for or receive any SSI disability.

with sincere remorse for your position.

a. are you proud to be a slave?
b. that is terrible pay and awful quality of life
c. that is waaaayyyy worse than 20 years ago standards when gas/food/housing/healthcare vs. take home is factored.
d. MILLIONS of US workers are in the SAME BOAT or a smaller leakier one.

It is way past time for another massive labor movement, not just in the USA, but half or Europe to from what i have been reading last few years.

Work as hard as you want, slaves worked their selves to DEATH..

HARD WORK is a SMALL PART OF THE EQUATION in reference to quality of life, income, etc.

Yeah, i don't know why this guy should just throw his self respect in the garbage and go on welfare, were he'd be better off and his wife would be aswell..
Why should he work 60 hours a week for 13 dollars and hour to maintain his family with pride..god no, pride, thats a thing of the past for fools who want to be slaves.
Jesus, who wants to wake up every morning thinking.. "When i go to work today, it's to buy my kids a new pair of shoes and put bread on the table, because it's my family and I provide for them.", when you can be on welfare, buy your self a six pack and watch other people working on the TV.

The OP did not say that the couples had only been together for 1-5 year, only that the 5 year mark AFTER havingg a child or children. The COULD have been married 6 year or more before having their 1st child together, then split 5-11 years AFTER chil/ren.....pfft! So you just use this to have reason to be a sl ut....I was right 1st time.....you don't procreate, that you know of, ...... Therefore, what is your purpose in life? Yeah...I'm gonna go there......Children ARE our future, if you have none, are you involved in contributing to our future in any way at all like a teacher, Dr., etc? If not, you are wasting much needed space....like spam...

AND I meant loser dude as being 40+ working at a McDonalds, 7/11, Mac's, etc.....you know.... the jobs MEANT for our youth early & usually 1st jobs that gives them incentive to stay in school, go back to school, or get a secondary education.....

There is a reason for that as the women work, take care of the house, like a handy man, keep everything stocked, his gut filled AND looks after the looser dude's rotten children till their 18, then that's when the other looser leaves for someone younger, hotter, & IF said looser can get away with it, richer so he can sit on his lazy bottom believing he deserves this..........THAT is why the Governments give the woman at least a very tiny, barely noticeable, recompense that would be used on other women, drugs & or alcohol.... you NEED to look at BOTH sides cause if the dude is charged that tini amount he barely notices, HE HAS DONE wrong by said woman & try,

my point was more along the lines of if everyone was educated and able to pull themselves out of the gutter who would be left to do the menial jobs that keeps our society rolling ? the minimum wage is designed to keep people poor and in debt,without those on the minimum wage what would happen ?

do not get me wrong i agree that in a family unit someone has to lead by example and welfare is clearly a bad example it is just the disparity comes from a place of never being able to get ahead....it is a fallacy to believe that hard work and hard work alone will get you out of the gutter....

most rich people make money from money and not hard work,then you have those who are simply born into money...these people will never do a menial job that is necessary for the cogs to keep turning society needs people to be poor

and welfare well the government need people on welfare to fight for them and fight those who want a better system that is fair for one and all but i digress that is another topic all togethor

He didn't divorse me, I'm the 1 who walked......HE had enough money, family money as I never saw any of it during our 13 year marriage & niether did my 2 giirls, yet his family & hiim BOUGHT interum custody so I appeal, with a request the Judge not be on the take, then not to be one of his father's alcoholic cronies...THEN I got full custody & the $%*#@#!^~# went to jail for what he'd done....but you are probably just like him....pfft! er.....

I can't help but laugh at some of the rubbish being spouted here.
So some of you are proud to be exploited? Proud you work yourself into the ground to enrich someone else while your standard of living falls every month? Fine, if you want to do that, go for it, don't get upset with others not playing THAT game though.
Mostly, people who work full time are slightly better off, though if they could be better off by taking benefits instead of working, they'd have to be a bit stupid to, just as the rich bloke at the top of the pile NEVER pays more tax than he absolutely has to.

Some of these posts remind me of that scene in the dungeon in the Life of Brian, where the old guy's going on about how marvellous the Romans are.

social security by the way is not welfare!! up until recently it has brought in more money than it has sent out in benefits... The gov't has borrowed that money and used it to expand welfare, build new schools, help new businesses start up (oh well just pretent there's a comma there my computer isn't the best in the world some keys are getting rather stubborm!)

it only became a handout when the funds coming weren't enough to pay for the benefits and give the gov't that nice big reserve of money to spend!! social security is not the problem our gov't is! and to be honest it would be a major ripoff to those who paid in if they were not to get the benefit. The gov't has borrowed that money there is a ton of treasury notes in the fund that are payable on demand! how would you feel if someone told you that your ira was just a handout simply because they just didn't want to give you the return on you investment? it's not much different!

and I am sorry but these kids going to college isn't the answer and sounds really insane to someone in their 40's or 50's who have been doing well for years in the occupation that they were working in only to have their jobs shipped overseas for cheaper labor! what's the matter are you finding that the cheap labor isn't that cheap after all??
The cost of college is getting to be insane if one is to go for a bachelors and the jobs out there just aren't paying enough to be able to include the repayments into one's budget after graduation to make it feasible. Not to mention that you will still be depending on someone to do those lower skilled jobs won't you??

Use to be that there were apprenticeship programs for the trades and businesses were willing to train their employees and still give them a decent wage. Now the businesses expect you to go to school to learn the trade and by what I hear even if you do that you will be lost in the job market because the trades aren't something you really can learn in a classroom in a few years! My husband is a tool and die maker and he spends hours going through the blueprints sometimes just trying to figure out just where the inexperienced person (cheap labor!!!) who came up with it screwed up how to fix it into something so that it will work.

A few people have made just about every aspect of our economy into a big gov't backed scam including welfare itself. And those who are benefitting from these scams financially would rather blame those that their scams have ripped off or taken opportunities away from than they are to acknowledge the real problems and do something to correct them!

If people understood that helping and hand ups is not socialism. It is part of being human. I am so glad the first human who discovered how to harness fire, was willing to share. It is not human to choose to be hopeless. We seem to be pushed by some very clever humans into being just another predator animal.

Americans are stupid. There I said it.

2 trillions/320M people = USA should be on inflation already and that just 2trillion.

EMPLOYERS ARE ALREADY PAYING FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES:

Social Security contributions.
Medicare Contributions.
Workmans comp Insurance.
Unemployment Insurance.

Then they deal with asinine TAXATION
Then they deal with asinine REGULATION.

Then they deal with certain people telling them to pay for their health insurance.

And then 'PAY THEM MORE'.

Looks like you are forgetting that the people that are working are also paying into the programs. Welfare is bankrupting America but it isn't welfare for the poor it's the welfare for corporations like Exxon that made billions in profit paid zero in taxes and got over a hundred million back in tax refunds. Also look at our foreign aid programs which is just more welfare for the military industrial complex because they use quite a bit of that money to buy weapons from American companies.

Wow , just wow. I am 50 years old and in all those years have not seen such hurtful and selfish words coming from a woman who considers

herself a good woman and mother.

I am not a teacher and I am not a Dr ,etc as you put it. The words you typed just really tore at my heart. I never had any

children for reasons that I always thought were responsible. I couldnt afford them so I didnt just get some woman pregnant and expect

society to pay for them for me. One reason was I had a business I fought so hard to keep afloat for 14 years and paid workers more than I took

home for myself. It was not incorporated and when it fell I didnt file bankrupt. I have been paying those 58 thousand dollars worth of debt

off with the money I make from a 8pm to 8am shift job I have had for the last 13 years on top of the usual bills of living.

There re many nights I think about the empty void in hy life and how when I am gone there wont be a damn thing of me left in this world

as far as children. Hell , I cant even make a coherent sentence and my mind is racing all over the place right now by what you said.

You lady are one cold hearted woman and very careless with your words. This might be news to you as you sound very selfish and

self centered and probable never cared , but words can and do hurt.

I dont mind my taxes helping out others as helping out others and loving them is what I believe we are here for, not just spitting out a baby.

I would take a gander that most "poor" are the working poor. Sad that I work 40 hours a week and sometimes have to decide if I want to eat or pay my rent. Lots of corn out of the can for dinner, and I work full time.

Me2 man, between the bills and the kids and life....my crap check is gone so fast....I dont even know what happened to it all.


Keep your head up, you are working, and paying. Both things are admirable, both things deserving of respect.

Things will get better, they may in fact get much worse before it gets better if folks dont start making some decent money, student loan defaults, car and house defaults...etc...

It is all gonna come back again soon, the financial sector is about to take a hair cut it looks like, and it will be 2008 redux 2014, less a few trillion.

Time will tell, dont let em get you down man, that is what they want, and that is what they want to see.

The last time I was in the USA I went to NY. I was shocked at the homeless families walking around with suitcases. Richest country in the world. What went wrong?
