It is using the RAM system. These missiles are small and fast. They use the Sidewinder seaker.

That may be so, but there is also an attached disclaimer also:

As such, some of these photos seemingly indicate refitting/refits. Example:

The point is that a refitting program is taking place and it is a move from the Phalanx system to SeaRam and ESSM.

Frankly, I have no idea short of a tactical nuke or multiple lucky hits in the same spot by conventional explosives to sink such a large beast with a thick skin.....

But maybe one could, instead of trying to sink it, hinder performance by for example:

- attempting to do a top attack with clusterbombs and lay out a area - denial minefield on the runways, this would interrupt aircraft landings and take-offs until the deck is cleared, wich could be a hazardous and unpleasant job,

- Many missiles nowadays aim just above the waterline, prefferably midship or somewhere near the engine room, now how about do an initial strike at the commandtower, that would piss off the captain and maybe hit some important radar guidance for the missile defence system, after that a conventional attack could be launched...

well if ohe with a large payload hit the right spot like got into the hangar deck below the fuel and such would cause a chain reaction.

The rotary cannons on ships cant activate to intercept something so fast, with mach 1 the, it will be approaching the ship with almost a kilometar a second, the gun's range as you said is 1.5, there will be oly a second or two for them to blow it before it hits. They are not ment to shoot thinks moving so fast.

umm how about 340 m/s cause thats the speed of sound
i mean the sunburn gives the ships less than 30 seconds chance and that is a small margin.

Got me thinking , suppose you have a very small 1 person sub made out of low IR/RADAR/SONAR signature plastics , with a dual purpose engine that can power the boat and or a long remote controlled hose with an abrassive water cutter. Try to sneek up to a carrier and silently carf your name in the hull


Even better, just make a very small hole in the hull in wich the hose fits and remotely start pumping explosive slurry or explosive gas inside the ship, through the hose, you could deliver much more explosive material BEHIND the armour than using torpedoes and the tranport medium has a much smaller detectable crosssection.

Naturally it wouldn't be as simple as proposed , but even a carrier must obbey to Murphies Law....

why move if you can use a kilo to sit at the bottom and just stay silent, hell just use a modded up kilo on battery. silent and twice as deadly.

Beating any Anti-Ship Cruise Missle depends on detection first. Can the Battle Group detect the launcher platform in time to take deffensive action. Don't forget that the launching platform ( aircraft for instance ) will only pop up once for targeting. Then drop low to launch below radar and then get out of the area.
