As I'm sure you've seen, this was written by a man named Robert Collins—who was supposedly a "former AFOSI agent."

Collins writes that... "This is from the files of AFOSI dated in October 1972"...
Can this be verified? Can anyone find these files? Or do we just have to take Collins' word for it??

Collins co-authored a book with Richard Doty—a strange character in his own right—titled The Black World of UFOs: Exempt From Disclosure. He has also appeared a few times on Coast to Coast AM and they have included a short biography...

Did this alleged UFO incident really happen?
Was Robert Collins an AFOSI agent as he claims?
Where are these AFOSI files "dated in October 1972" that he speaks of?

Can anyone shed light on this? Is there any more information available?

Until we can verify that these files exist, I suggest we treat Mr. Robert Collins and his story with a fair dose of skepticism.

I was stationed at McChord in the early 90s. I have no evidence pro or con to support your OP, but I will say that it was considered to be a bit of an urban legend... possibly based on truth. No one knew for sure, of course... but rumors and legends about the supposed incident surely persist.

Just my opinion:
1. Maybe ... Maybe not. Not knowing will keep the story alive in the conspiracy realm forever.
2. Irrelevant. So what if he was? AFOSI agents can make up stories same as anyone else.
3. If (and that's a big If) there was a classified incident report, it is still subject to certain retention requirements. I can't remember what those requirements are, but they are generally for a far shorter period of time than a declassification review period. Bottom Line: They probably would have been burned or shredded by some bored airman. I know.

Sometimes the devil is in the details so I did some checking…

The hand held radio mentioned in the article linked is indeed produced in 1969 and used by the Airforce security police. You can find that info in these two links…

So 1972, estimated number of personnel involved, 20 or so, including response team?

And in the past 40 years, not ONE of these people has come forward? Are they all dead?
Does Stanton Friedman know of this case, or any of the other 200 million UFO "Researchers".

Was this THE moment, when a race of ET were about to meet the Earthlings?

Is this the classic "Klatu" moment, when he was about to hand a translator and instruction book on how to travel to the stars, to the humans but was shot by some frightened enlisted grunt.

Was the Alien hurt? Why did the Flying saucer wait around until the swat team came?

Where are all the witness statements held? Did anyone take a photograph?

What is a TACAN? Is it of some strategic importance, or an energy source, or weapons?

Great story tho, like the many others uncorroborated.

Maybe they were waiting for Ben Rich to take them Home??
