Well, the scary thing is that the Cabal plans to do something very similar (consolidating all soveriegn nations into a giant global government), but not for the altruistic reasons mentioned here.

They just straight up want complete control over every aspect of the peoples daily lives and they are getting very close to the technology to allow them to achieve just such a thing.
