I've never done that and I've been on numerous extended trips.

It could be something, but its probably nothing. When I previously traveled out of the country, I left behind a pair of earrings. They're just basic diamond studs, but they're very special because my parents gave them to me. I was more worried about them somehow being stolen or losing them than I was the possibility that I wouldn't come back, to be honest.

I also second the notion that he probably wasn't allowed to wear any kind of jewelry on the job, so he left them with his family.

At the same time, this whole event has been so weird, so who's to really say (at least until the plane/wreckage is found and an investigation is complete).

Which proves that different people do things differently and this guy apparently did it closer to what my experience has been with extended travel.

I'm friends with a co-worker that makes sure any legal papers are completed and easy for his family to find any time he travels for a month or more.

I heard this rumour yesterday froma relative in the UK, strange that this hit UK news and not NZ news. The wife has already been interviewed ( or cajoled into showing tears and emotion to get the ratings) and it's been aired here in NZ ,no mention of this at all !?

People trying to make something out of nothing I guess, the story is weird enough already without making wild claims.

Just about everyone in my family will sort out their paperwork, like making sure all bills are paid, there is a list of contact numbers. Anyone with a laptop PC sorts out their files, emails, photos and downloaded itineraries. Those relatives that have a regular "travel suitcase" sort out what things they'll take with them; hairdryers, adapter plugs, mobile phone charger.

Not any premonition, just a "just in case".

Haha at the people saying this is ODD their is nothing odd about it..

I know plenty of people who work overseas mining and they do the same with their families.

Maybe its not something Americans do, thats why its ODD

This thread is pointless and don't know why it even deserves a topic.

She has already explained now in a interview last week for anyone that didn't see it that they were in a car accident recently plus the nz quakes and discussed many things should something happen, and he left it for their boys just incase, because they had that brush with death AND that he cant wear them on site and didn't want to leave them in the room sitting there! so like i said in previous post not weird at all!
