The US and Russia are both Acting like Asses

Neither really. This is a power play. Russia didn't like how outside forces was driving a "Ukrainian spring" . So they moved into areas that are historically Russian for all intents and purposes.

The ironic thing is, is that there is not much anyone will be able do to dislodge Russia until the situation in the Ukraine swings back into the Russians favor. And they are willing to use force as well to nudge that pendulum.

Stragetically, it's the same reason why the USA "took" Hawaii. Kinda force fed that star on the flag.

There definitely seems to be a lack of "cool heads" that this type of diplomacy requires. The EU and UK aren't helping much either. I guess this is one of the worrying things about the whole thing and a poor reflection on modern day politicians.

I respectfully disagree.

I see Putin as having a very cool head in this situation. This is a situation that could have spiraled out of control, lord knows the western media have tried their hardest to instigate something.

But Russia has kept their cool, stood their ground and stuck to their word.

The ones without cool heads are the US, UK and German leaders who appear to be running around like headless chickens.

Lynchpin question, why?
It was a different time, Slayer... and that's exactly what bothers me about this. The two heads butting were clearer, equally mature on both sides and were lastly and of critical importance, blooded. Right now we have for better or worse somebody holding the football who I would rather not see in those shoes.
Best case, I think we should butt out of this one-- and I mean a month before the checks were cut for the snipers: whoever were holding the scissors.

Sure agree with you there bub. It's scary as hell to be intelligent,young and seeing Russia show up again,I bet. The rest are spine deep into their phones and video games. Nothing we have faced yet would be as nasty as this may portend to be.WWII? It won't take that long to kill off a third of us,this time.
I won't say they can't do it,but with these cards being dealt,I'd let them have their damn port if they'll play nice.

(Reuters) - Russia on Thursday dismissed as "primitive distortion of reality", cynicism and double standards a U.S. Department of State fact sheet that called President Vladimir Putin's comments on the crisis in Ukraine false.

Moscow and the West are locked in a Cold War-style tug-of-war over Ukraine, where a regional parliament in Crimea on Thursday voted to join Russia after a pro-Western popular revolt in Kiev toppled a Moscow-backed president.

With the document titled "President Putin's Fiction: 10 False Claims About Ukraine", Washington has dropped diplomatic niceties and all but accused Moscow of lying about events in Ukraine.

"It's clear that in Washington, as before, they are unable to accept a situation developing not according to their templates," Alexander Lukashevich, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, said in a statement.

Cold War Style back and forth, I'm just curious how many out there besides myself think that both sides are acting like asses? I don't see either side really gaining any moral high ground in this mess.

Both sides have legitimate gripes but how they're going about this seems very childish. I'm not going to pick either side in this thread. I've been equally critical of my own Government and Putin. Suffice it to say that I'd like to hear from those who are either on the fence or who simply look at both sides and shake their heads.

No, they wouldn't get off with the way they are behaviing unless their parties and allies supported them.

They are fighting over the monopoly of gas supplies to Europe (the Gazprom pipelines), the control of the Black Sea (the naval bases) as well as food production (agricultural land of Ukraine).

Putin has it, and the Western investors and speculators want it. When they saw that Ukraine economy was in a mess, they smelled blood and moved in. Putin saw what was happening, locked the gate and barricaded the door. Now those very same investors are howling like wolves because they didn't get any fresh meat. And the unfortunate thing is that they won't give up even when everyone else can see that this is something that matters to both Ukrainians and Russians.

One side says NATO has been encroaching and now wants to get on the FACE of Russia, so Putin has to act.

Other side says that re-surgent Russia will usurp other nations and stomp them under it so they need NATO protection.

One thing is clear, opinions of either side WILL not change.

My fear is that this political bickering better not turn into economical and financial war. That would throw world economies into recession and common average global citizen will suffer. The link below says that even if Russia and China start to sell $50B each of US Bonds, it can create stampede in the US Bond Markets, slide USD way down, throw US into recession and kill off the stock markets by 50%. That would be $9 Trillion hit on the US markets. That can be a reason for an all out military war which can include the nukes.

Russia hold $138B of US Bonds and China holds $1120B i.e. nearly 10x that of Russian holdings.

Obama is wise in not reacting too much. US/NATO should respect Russia's near space and not get into the face.

When political/economic/military NUKES start to go off, then it will not be pretty going for anyone.

I'm wondering what's under the mask. Didn't PrezBo say in a hot mic that he would be more flexible after he is re-elected? Maybe Putin is just playing with his naivete though but they could be on the same team.
