Well the meat and potatoes of the Queens speech today was to inform her loyal subjects that they have entered an era of global uncertainty and a need to increase �opportunity� but also �security�. So drastic measures must be taken, at the heart of the matter the new biometric Identity Cards. To fight organized crime and Terror.

Blair's crackdown on terror

The main theme of the Queen's Speech was the need to enhance security in the face of international terrorism and organized crime.
Opposition leaders and even some Labour Party figures wasted little time in accusing the Government of deliberately whipping up fears for cynical political reasons ahead of a general election expected next May. The tone was set by a series of measures - including a Bill to introduce identity cards - in response to what Tony Blair believes is the biggest threat in the 21st century.
The Queen spoke of an era of "global uncertainty" and a need to increase not just "opportunity" but also "security for all". At the heart of the Government's anti-crime and anti-terrorism programme is the Identity Cards Bill which will create a national secure database holding basic details about everyone in the United Kingdom. These will include the name and address, and biometrics information such as fingerprints, iris scans and facial images.

Sad is all I can say the British Government is attempting to tie Terror to crime. How did that sad poem go written by Protestant pastor Martin Niemlier �First they came for�.

Interesting to hear that from the U.S. main supporter. It's likely a signal of a change that both Britain and the U.S. wish to implement. It's the link that they will use to justify using anti-terror tactics in the fight against crime which is a road that must be closed at all costs.

What is "crime"? It's whatever the government defines it to be. In the U.S. statutes that criminalize behavior must passes constitutional muster. It will become much more dangerous to civil liberties if Dubya gets to fulfill his wet dream of appointing right-wing extremists to the Supreme Court. Be afraid, folks, be very afraid, and don't just sit there, do something about this before it's too late. Write your congressmen and senators and state legislators and governors and the editors and let them know you will not stand for further destruction of the U.S. and turn it into the land of the formerly free.

Well, there is no question in mind now, that the upcoming US police state(official) is going to spread here too. I really hope the British people will not be as stupid as half of America, and take the "security" bait and swear in Blair for a 2nd term. I guess I need to ask the Britons here? Are you?
