US showing off to North Korea is like Olympic athletes showing off to the wheelchair disabled - a complete waste. And North Koreans themselves would never find about it anyway because state news and press is 100% controlled by Government.

The actions by north Korea are not directed at its own people, its directed at the US and South Korea.

Secondly, our actions are not directed at the North Korean people, but at the north Korean government.

As for the Olympic comparison - That's a North Korean Issue. Its a land of magic God like leaders and unicorns - with nuclear weapons. Nothing like a God on a unicorn with first strike capability.

/end sarcasm.

They tried flaunting nukes in front of the North Koreans during the Korean war they laughed it off, just like they will this time.

Yeah, a show of strength isn't exactly what the Obama administration is known for...

Maybe offering some aid to North Korea, that's more in line...

Not surprised about this really.

One side flexes their muscles.

Then the other side flexes their muscles in hopes of being the strongest.

Then it goes round and round.

I doubt this would lead to any kind of altercation though.

If they want to impress use a B2 and put a full load of concrete filled GPS guided bombs right down the centerline of the USS Pueblo (AGER-2)

Do it some dark and rainy night so they find scrap metal the next morning..

The B-52 is more impressive. For decades it was (and still is in some circles) known as the doomsday bomber.

I thought at first this would be more as a show of force for Russia's benefit, especially after Russia just did an ICBM test launch in the middle of the tensions over Crimea and Ukraine.

But the US also seems to be serious towards North Korea now too. There is another ATS thread discussing the US just asking the UN Security Council yesterday to take action against North Korea for violating UN sanctions with their recent missile tests. From the ABC News story linked in that other ATS thread:

US Wants UN to Act Against N Korea for Missile Tests
UNITED NATIONS March 6, 2014 (AP)
By EDITH M. LEDERER Associated Press

The United States is asking the U.N. Security Council to take action against North Korea for firing two rounds of ballistic missiles in the past week in "clear and calculated violations" of U.N. sanctions.

A report by the United States to the council committee monitoring sanctions against North Korea, which was seen by The Associated Press on Wednesday, asks its members and experts to examine the Scud missile launches and take "appropriate action" in response to the violations of multiple Security Council resolutions.

Under U.N. sanctions dating back to 2006, North Korea is prohibited from carrying out any launches that use ballistic missile technology. Subsequent U.N. resolutions require the North to abandon all ballistic missile programs.

Ballistic missiles can be used to launch nuclear weapons, and the resolutions also demand that North Korea halt nuclear tests and abandon all nuclear weapons and nuclear programs.

The report said that according to U.S. government information, North Korea launched two Scud short-range ballistic missiles from its southeastern coast on Feb. 27 and two more Scud missiles from the same coast on March 3. It said all four missiles flew in a northeasterly direction and landed in the sea.

"Both the Feb. 27 and March 3 launches clearly used ballistic missile technology and were therefore prohibited," the report said.

I would have thought most attention would be on Russia right now, but apparently not.

The US considers this option. I wonder if this will impress the North Koreans? I seriously doubt it. It's not like they have acted as if this sort of thing would impress them if anything they may lash out even worse than they have in the past. With all that has transpired in the world the past couple of weeks I'd think Obama would try to tone down provocative action not increase it? Oh, well Such is the world we presently live in...

The Irony.

I'll say it again...the bloody hypocritical IRONY!

Glad i got that off my chest.
